Why is a hardware survey monitoring what software you have installed?
It is a hardware and software survey. Says so right on the page. |

Valve's stats put DX11 cards at 31% of the survey sample, and Win Vista/7 at 75%+ of the sample. How only 5% of the systems can be DX11 capable makes no sense. That would require most DX11 card owners to be using XP, which is silly.
Edit: I figured it out. The DX10/11 5% adoption figure is from May of 2010. It's a year and a half old. Yeah all the graphs on that page are old, meant to point that out earlier today. |

5.6% have DX11? And PC gamers wonder why there are hardly any DirectX 11 games.
Not only that, 25% only have 512MB of VRAM and 43% have 1024MB.
No wonder PC games are at a stand still. |

Only about 50% of systems are DX10 capable and 5% DX11. Probably because of all the integrated graphics. 2nd most installed OS is win XP, but its down to 17% which is good.
Creston wrote on Dec 2, 2011, 20:27: Why is a hardware survey monitoring what software you have installed?
Creston Because you give it permission to? Steam pops up a thing and asks if it can check your installed software list (they aggregate it into a survey). Its not doing this without permission or notification.
BTW, neither gamespy or blue noticed, but the latest software survey was a year ago July 2010. So its been a while since they've asked people to check what software they have installed.

Huh, 59% of GPU's are NVIDIA, but the most typical result is a ATI chipset.
As for the hardware survey monitoring what software you have, you can choose to allow it to look at your software or not |
