Stardock Titles on Steam

Stardock announces their titles are now available on Steam, as their aversion to using Valve's online service ended right around the time they sold their competing Impulse service to GameStop. "With the sale of our former PC digital download technology to GameStop earlier this year, we no longer have any conflicts of interest in offering our titles to other digital distribution channels," said Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock. "We are starting with Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity with other titles being made available over the coming weeks." Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity is on sale on Steam for a 25% discount, and for old-time's sake, the space strategy game is also being offered for the same discounted price on Impulse.

Since a few of you haven't figured it out yet. Trinity IS the original game, with both Expansions. Thats why it's called the Trinity edition.

Well worth the 15 bucks you're crying over and wanting for less.

Unless you own them already. In which case one might pause.

You'd think that having the ability to move your game from one service to another would be in the Gamer's Bill of Rights.

As time went on, it became apparent that the GBoR was nothing but a PR stunt. Sadly.

Weirdly, the GBoR was pretty much in effect during the entire run of GalCiv2. That game was supported out the ass, and so was SoSE. Then they wrote the GBoR, and suddenly it just went out the window.

Anyway, the only game I have on Impulse that I actually give a shit about is Galciv2, so if I can rebuy the whole thing on Steam for 10 or 15 bucks, I can forget about Impulse altogether.

I'd love to transfer Sins and dump Impulse altogether.

Unfortunately, I doubt it is entirely Stardock's choice. They don't own Impulse anymore, and I'm sure that the sale contract to GameStop wouldn't include language allowing them to transfer property to their competitors. While Stardock owns the game, the original purchase was made through a service Stardock no longer owns.

I'll just wait for Christmas when the whole thing is on sale, buy it, and send Impulse to the recycle bin.

Ah, I didn't realize trinity was original game and the 2 expansions.

Still, I'm waiting until they offer more titles, I want other stardock stuff too in a big stardock pack.

LOL the Gamer's Bill of Rights died right when DemiGod was published!

I just got so bored with Brad's appearance on Podcast to apologize. He had no clue about DemiGod and no clue about Elements till the blood was on the wall.

Yay. I'd been wanting to get this but a refusal to use impulse, and Amazon not having it for download either, meant waiting patiently for this day to arrive.

The Devs on the forums said no, but I pointed out that the Devs for SPaZ did it, so I hope they consider it.
Thats not transferring from one digital service to another though. That was activating a key that was previously only available directly from the dev, into steam.

Stardock COULD do that, but they'd likely take a hit doing so. Steam would surely charge them a fee for every cd key activated. Remember, with them being in financial difficulties, they are not likely to do something like that.

I'm ok with re-buying all stardock stuff on steam so I can finally get rid of impulse, as long as its a good deal and its in a big pack. Like say $30-$40 for all previous stardock titles. I doubt they can go to all impulse titles (since there were many other publishers and devs involved), but they can probably do just the ones they've personally had a hand in developing.

So far though, they've only offered Sins:Trinity, which makes the announcement of "titleS" a lie.

Eh now that I mull it over a bit it's probably just as much to do with Valve not wanting to host/support games they didn't see any money for.

I know, I never bothered though.

In truth I bought it on Steam because I always hated Impulse's archive feature, which sucked ass. Steam's is faster, easier, and just better by a mile, which matters to me because I install/uninstall games so frequently on different machines, and I'm on Comcast with a 250GB/month limit so I try ti stay away from repeated downloading.

To a lesser extent, I wanted to cast a vote for Stardock, which is still a fine company, despite Brad Wardell's inability to keep his damn fool mouth shut.
