Dev wrote on Nov 14, 2011, 19:38: Upcoming features may or may not be in the release version. For instance, dual weilding is in that list. I'm interested in what's the major changes (specifically new features) between a year ago and now, not what might change in 2012.
As for bugs being listed differently than new features. Sure. Did you read it? Its mostly things like "New settings in Server.properties: view-distance, allow-nether" and "New Bow shooting sounds" neither of which I care about.
Even if I stick to JUST the new features list on that link, its not a trivial amount of time (unlike your claims) to read that 50 page document.
In addition, with some changes, its hard to tell if they are trivial or not. Whatever man, if you actually visited that link you'd see that what's clearly in the 1.0 release section WILL be in the next release.
The features are listed differently, some releases don't have anything but bug fixes. For those that do have new features the most major additions ARE RIGHT AT THE TOP OF EACH ENTRY. If you want to know if it's a trivial change or not just click on the link that they so generously provided that will take you to a page with more details about it. How much easier do you need it to be?
It sounds to me like you'd rather have something tell you why they think you should play MC rather than making a qualified decision for yourself. LOL, and how would I know about the dual wielding without having actually visited that link? Just because something is listed in a "planned release feature" section, doesn't mean it will actually be in the release version. I've often seen planned features pulled from a patch in games to be delayed until a future patch.
This link is far more useful: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Version_history/Development_versions It lists things that are currently in development versions, not just things planned. And THAT page actually MENTIONS enchantment, unlike the other version history one.
And I repeat, even IF I stick to the new features at the TOP of each patch, its NOT a trivial task. At a glance, there's probably at least 100 new versions in the 50 pages. BTW, even the ppl editing the wiki agree with me, they've marked the version page at the top with "This page is too long" Here's just ONE version list(and its not the longest one) from version 1.6, I'm only going to list the new features section:
Added Nether support to multiplayer. Added craftable Maps. Added trapdoors. Added Tall Grass in certain biomes. Seeds are now found in tall grass; using a hoe on the ground no longer yields seeds. Added Dead Shrubs in Deserts. Mushrooms now spread, albeit slowly. New settings in Server.properties: view-distance allow-nether Beds now explode when used in the nether. The lighting on block icons in the inventory has been changed to appear brigher. The record player now supports more than 15 different music disks; no additional music disks were added until Beta 1.9. Ice now regenerates regardless of whether it’s snowing or not. Blocks destroyed by other players in multiplayer now show the breaking block particle effect. Doors make sound for other players in multiplayer. Activated dispensers make sounds and trigger particles in multiplayer. Players stuck in walls will slide towards the nearest gap if there is one. ⇧ Shift+clicking while crafting makes as much as possible and moves it straight to your inventory. ⇧ Shift+clicking something in your inventory will push it directly in your hot bar and vice-versa. Trying to sleep in the Nether causes the bed to explode. Temporarily disabled Advanced OpenGL due to bugs until 1.6.5. It’s no longer possible to build solid blocks on the top layer of the map. Booster tracks are now speedier to offset the loss of glitch-boosters. Fire has been severely nerfed so it spreads slower, and doesn’t spread infinitely. Compressed network traffic more aggressively. Blocks that don’t change appearance when the data changes don’t send block updates when their data changes now. Arrows shot one player can now be picked up by other players. Minecarts and boats can go through portals, empty or occupied. Water below a layer of source blocks no longer behaves like source blocks.
So, after taking a minute to read the new features from just that ONE version, what do I see? I see a lot of bug fixes listed in the "new feature" section of that patch. I see nothing major in that version, especially compared to things listed in this thread from other useful replies, such as enchantments and new blocks.
And now you are suggesting I follow links from all these "new features "to see if they are major? So now I'm reading 500 pages instead of just one that's 50 pages long? Yeah that sure does make an "easy" task even more "easy"
