Skyrim Soars

The Steam Game and Player Statistics Page shows The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as the most played game by current player count as of this writing, with more players than all the other games on the list combined. This also show today's peak number of concurrent users for Bethesda's new RPG sequel was 231,593. Thanks Acleacius via FPSWin. And for your tweaking pleasure: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – How To Enable Ambient Occlusion. And for your larcenous side: How to steal in Skyrim.

Sepharo, forcing VSync off via the known tweak gave me my focus back. So it was VSync. You said you got used to it, but maybe you were only talking about BF3. So here ya go!

You could try out the mod that sharpens the visuals. It's easy enough to get rid of if you don't like it.

Hey guys I'm really curious about the answers to the following question.

Yesterday I complained to a friend of mine that I somehow can't seem to literally focus (visually) properly on my screen when playing Skyrim. I'm not wearing glasses nor do I need them. To my surprise, my friend replied to me that he had the exact same problem! He also didn't know why, and thought it was an issue with himself physically. I came to the idea that maybe it's because of VSync, somehow, so I tweaked it off in SkyrimPref.ini. Hadn't the chance to try it out yet, though.

Now, the actual quesion:

Did any of you guys experienced the same issue and if so, (how) did you fix it?

I have a similar problem in Metro 2033, BF3, and Skyrim. Something about the crazy level of detail causing me to zone out and not see the objective. In BF3 I get used to it after awhile and can finally see enemies in the foliage and dust clouds.

Good for them. As much crap as I give Bethesda for buggy products, they actually evaluated how things needed to progress from the standpoint of someone who wants to play a game and released something which improved on their earlier work. I hope all the excuse makers at Bioware who decided that Dragon Age 2 failed because there was no market for this type of game take a few moments to let these figures sink in.

This product is a success because the core product has appeal that can be spread by enthusiasm carried over from prior products, word of mouth, and the ability to endure under critical scrutiny. It leaves the retarded fringe crap up to the modders to create, rather than letting the writers and developers indulge in it.

You can't change it without modding, there's no menu option. You can change the binds, dosn't fix the problem. Then it's even worse because you left click for left hand outside of menus and right click for left hand inside. I think it comes down to not being able to put a shield into the right hand. Which seems hard coded into the game.

StingingVelvet: I guess people dont understand complaining vs typing out problems and hoping some one on the forums has a solution for it. It worked on the Fav hot key thing, and people did try to point out a way around it though which is more helpful then some people on here.

I changed it. In the controls menu change left hand to left mouse, right hand to right mouse. Works perfectly.

Maybe it's because I have not played the other elder scrolls games, but having the right hand bound to left mouse button just makes no sense.

Then change it, why complain?

I guess I have no soul then indeed.

Many of the textures are pretty low-res, so they don't look so hot up close. But when you judge the visuals as a complete package, I think the game looks pretty good. As usual, Bethesda excels at making pretty vistas.

Honestly I didn't look into the menu's that much, Having to use the keyboard to navigate some menu's and the mouse to do other turned me off from trying to search through for different options. Was also having too much fun playing the game to play with the menus.

I don't mind the STA, END, INT and limited stats... it's the putting the points into perks(I used the wrong word before) that's annoying. Knowing you have a limit to them vs giving you a huge array and not telling you anything was just annoying.

Maybe it's because I have not played the other elder scrolls games, but having the right hand bound to left mouse button just makes no sense. I mean it's purely a graphical thing, but when you have two big things readied on screen it seems to me most people will click the left button to activate the left object on screen. Best example is I have a giant shield out in my left hand so i'm trying to click a new sword I'll hit the right button because it should go on the right side of the screen, not replace the left item. I think the reason they have it that way is like you said about a primary button for use, but then it comes down to them discriminating vs left handed people. Guess i'll dig into the menus.

Still vastly enjoying the game vs others of simular fair.

Pretty much.

Tell me that's not damn beautiful. http://i41.tinypic.com/16igx3d.jpg I got a chance to see the northern lights when I was up in far northern canada a month back, and it's so close to being the same it's spooky.

Being in Minnesota, they are pretty frequent, and that looks to be a pretty good rendition....pretty cool.

The UI is a nightmare. Certain keys control multiple functions - for example, the same key that's used for sheathing/readying a weapon is used to drop items from your inventory. Unfortunately, if you change this key, they help dialogs and the key reminders at the bottom left of the screen don't update! They still list what the action is according to default keymapping, so you have to look at what the function was originally assigned to by looking at the manual, then finding out what you assigned it to. Problem is that the manual doesn't say that one key controls several functions like sheathe and drop - you have to figure that out for yourself. This is a complete fail and demands a patch to fix the inconsistency. I can't believe they shipped the game with the UI in this state. Sure, it's a bad design, but beyond that, it's BROKEN!

Choosing where to put the skill point is probably the best example. All you get it a box saying "Choose a place to put the point, you'll get one every level" But there's no hint at max levels. On here someone said your max is 70, which already makes me regret spreading out my first 3 points to try out different things. On a system that's so "use it to get better" limited points is a total counter to it.

The three bars basically represent STR, END and INT. The skills and perks more than make up for not having dedicated SPD, WIS and DEX. That's just my opinion of course, but like I said in the other thread I feel like Skyrim allows me to customize a character and choose a role MUCH more than Morrowind or Oblivion did.

Other then that the games enjoyable enough you can play through the menu system very fast once you get used to it. The WORST thing about the menu's is Right click puts things in your left hand and Left click puts things in your right. Try to tell me the reason for that.

You can change that in the options menu somewhere. I did.
