I put about 300 hours into Oblivion and the majority of that time was spent with mods. Mainly UI, balancing and graphical mods that improved the game. I did the same with Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Skyrim appears to need mods more than any of those, judging by the atrocious UI and the complete lack of hotkeys to equip items and spells. I'm thinking I'll actually hold off on playing until at least those issues are fixed.
