Tribes: Ascend Speed Cap Removed

The Rez Studios Website has patch notes for a new version 0.1.523 for the closed beta of Tribes: Ascend, the upcoming jetpack-powered multiplayer shooter revival. They mention new maps and some fixes, one of which should encourage those hoping the game's mechanics will live up to its predecessors: "The speed cap has been removed and various falling, skiing and jetpack physics changes have been implemented, including modifications to Skills."

Nice! Now they just need to get rid of the retarded predefined loadouts and bring back the freeform loadout system.

Unfortantely their payment system completely revolves around the fixed classes. I doubt they could or would make that change. This game is ok. It's still not the extreme esport fun level as T1 or T2C. I was hoping they could take it to that level. Thus far its like meh. But hey its pretty.

Who needs it? Everyone needs jump. Part of the learning curve was perfecting a jump-to-jetpack for quick acceleration.

They really are listening to a lot of fan feedback.

At PAX, I asked them about the weapons-too-large thing, they were fully aware of it, and said the lead artist was already working on revisions.

When the Beta released, people noticed all sorts of new bind options, re-introducing Jump (even though...who needs it?), and a lot of custom binds for different combinations of jumping and skiing if you wish.

TotalBiscuit's mail box from a day or two ago had this game on in the background. Really looked good. I think the trick to getting in on these betas is to become a (popular) reviewer.

Excellent, it looks like they're really listening to fan and tester feedback. This might just turn out to be a great true Tribes sequel.
