Preloads are now underway on Direct2Drive and Steam for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, allowing those who have pre-purchased Bethesda's RPG sequel to get most of their download out of the way before the game's release on Friday. To help pass the interminable hours between now and then, a new diary is now available called Reaching New Heights: The World of Skyrim. This includes a write-up on the work that went into creating Skyrim's aesthetic. This is accompanied by some screenshots, an audio podcast, and a new The World of Skyrim trailer.

Right but he was asking about the protection specifically so that's what I addressed. The encryption won't be broken by release anyway as Valve updated whatever it is they're using, people had reverse engineered both the encryption and packing formats into a little tool but even Phoenix can't do anything with them. I doubt any groups will bother trying when the release is so close.

About the same as going to hell for pirating such a great game

It's just encrypted, I don't think there is any protection beyond that.

It is not the complete game though, that you preload. So regardless if you crack the encryption it will not allow you to play the game.

Zero. Steam actually uses a 2parth auth-encryption for the game files, plus the exe is never loaded until release day.

Finished the preload. But I some of the voice acting in that video sounded terrible. I really hope it sounds better in context. Regardless, really looking forward to playing it.

It's good that Skyrim will support DX11 but it's disappointing that there will be no visual differences as a result and tessellation isn't supported. Has there been any word on whether the interface will be different on the PC to console, or whether it will be better than Oblivion?

I already have the physical copy in my hands since yesterday. Bought it in Paris. Since I got the PC version I won't be able to activate it until friday (steam) but anyone with the PS3 or XBox versions could have already started playing.

I ordered from NewEgg but took the free 3-day shipping. I live in California but I'm not expecting to get the game until Monday. I'll be pleasantly surprised if it arrives on Saturday.
