Of course. Other things (besides the internet) that the Pentagon has invented:
Paper
Bread
Air
The moon
Propaganda

"But wait!, you might say, "How can the Pentagon have invented the Moon without being able to go there."
You have to keep in mind that the pentagon has also invented space travel and motion, exactly in that order.

I wasn't aware that the U.S. had taken down any sites. I remember some hubbub about DNS deletions or something a while back but I thought they decided not to go through with that.

edit: Also that page on the elvis site strains credibility a bit.

edit2: Wait are you kidding me? Why do you know about this stuff?

Why all the Pentagon hate? They're essentially on the side of keeping an open, free internet. Also, the Pentagon doesn't go around chasing down music and movie pirates (people who STEAL, remember?), lawyers and civil channels are used for that. Finally, there wouldn't even be an internet without the Pentagon.

If some foreign entity fucks up my ability to use the internet I would authorize the armed forces to stop them.

I think thats why the UN wants to regulate the internet, because a foreign entity (the US) has fucked up everyone else's ability to use the internet. They shut down websites like http://www.extremeelvis.com/ because they feel that the site is operating against their MPAA|RIAA sponsors... I mean against their countries laws and feel that they should be more then welcome to take down any website without checking facts or real due cause. If maybe a few hundred websites are taken down by mistake/censored by the US/Pentagon, oh well, a small price for the MPAA|RIAA's greater good.

The UN might not be the perfect global organisation - but it's the only one we've got...

I have a serious problem with the UN doing anything, and the internet is a fine example of things that would go bad quickly. Like Durban, 'womens rights', so on and so forth. Where dictatorships will quickly grab ahold of what they have and shut out everyone else, or use it to bash particular groups of people and silence all opposition.

Give me a break, why should the Pentagon have to abide by laws?

It's their job to destroy anyone who gets in their way, including the UN. Especially while they are overthrowing and looting whatever country or person they feel like atm. If they aren't free to loot the US Taxpayer's Black Ops Budget, what good are they?

Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history.....and they are stupid. Dwight D. Eisenhower
