Bloodlines/Dead State Interview

The Brian Mitsoda Interview on Grupo 97 is an English version of a Q&A also available in Spanish talking with the writer from Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines about Dead State, the zombie-themed role-playing game in development at Iron Lore Studios. Along the way he talks about the launch of Bloodlines, which offers some insights into how this lead to Troika's demise:

Well, some of that was due to deadlines, and a lot of it was the teamís own devotion to putting out the best possible game they could in the time remaining. That turned into a lot of late nights on our own time to try and make the game better. In the end, there was only so much we could do or were allowed to do and it was taken out of our hands. Would more time have helped? Yeah, most developers will always want more time to polish their games and Bloodlines needed some more time. We were also released against multiple big name sequels (Half-Life 2, Halo 2, Metal Gear Solid 3) and that kind of hurt our initial sales too, so holding the title to a less crowded release window would have helped too. I have no idea what the sales figures are now, but Iím betting that Bloodlines has beat sales expectations over time.

The modding community took off long before the release of Bloodlines on Steam. They've been releasing fixes and patches for Bloodlines for over 5 years now. If Troika/Activision had embraced these dedicated and talented programmers back then, Troika might still be around and more people would know just how good Bloodlines really is!
Yeah, I've been helping since the first official forums at Dilapidation. Then at Planet Vampire and last couple of years at Planet-Vampire. It had slowed to a real crawl, except for the Unofficial Patch.

The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.
