Uhm, that's what already happened really really long ago.

where you insert stories and links into a table with a category field (with a dropdown for the common ones to prevent typos), and tied it to something that flags duplicated links, and then builds the page with categories and bullet lists appearing dynamically as needed. That way you get a correctly-escaped, well-formatted page every time.
That's what Blammo does, for a large part. But it doesn't force any kind of structure on specific news posts, and doesn't flag stories that are accidentally submitted twice, which is probably what caused this orphaned forum thread.

Now it says "ERROR: Invalid posting ID" in here. I guess Blue deleted it from the home page since I don't see it there?

What blows my mind is that Blue still creates this news page from scratch. I would have long ago converted it into database-driven system where you insert stories and links into a table with a category field (with a dropdown for the common ones to prevent typos), and tied it to something that flags duplicated links, and then builds the page with categories and bullet lists appearing dynamically as needed. That way you get a correctly-escaped, well-formatted page every time.

Who knows; maybe he already has something like this, but occasionally goes and futzes with the generated page just to make it look homemade . :)

5. Re: Profanity in TV and video games linked to teen aggression Oct 17, 2011, 19:26 Jonny

Here are some random words the Victorians didn't approve of, we don't approve of them either and totally coincidentally we've found that they cause kids to be violent! Please, won't someone think of the children and ban these nasty words?

Really, give me a break. Shit is bad but faeces is fine? You can say sex all you like but fuck sends you down the path of aggression? Statistical manipulation by people with a personal moral agenda isn't any more convincing than any other form of hysteria mongering by people with a moral axe to grind.

Today's "Morning Safety Dance" reminds me of that 'Doctor' skit.

"Doctor."
"Doctor."
*other dude walks up*
"Doctor?"
"Doctor."
"Doctor."

Morning, Safety Dance.
Morning, Safety Dance.
other dude walks up.
Morning, Safety Dance.

"Profanity is kind of like a stepping stone," Coyne said. "You don't go to a movie, hear a bad word, and then go shoot somebody. But when youth both hear and then try profanity out for themselves it can start a downward slide toward more aggressive behavior."

Oh for Fuck's sake. Might as well just type "Hello! I am a puritanical prude, and I do not approve of bad language. Therefore and thusly, I have put together this study - in which I manipulated statistics to the point of being meaningless - which proves that swearing is most definitely, 100% bad for you."

Unfortunately, most people swear, and the real world statistics seem to point to those people not beating up or killing other people on any sort of regular basis. I mean, you can manipulate statistics to show that eating apples causes people to be more violent. So what? All that you have proved is that you suck at science and should have been an Enron accountant.
