Buddy, companies exist to survive.
If you keep pissing off your customers you will not do that. Companies like id, Bethesda, Valve, etc., make decisions based upon making money. Smart companies know that happy consumers are repeat consumers, so they do anything feasible to make consumers happy, to an extent.
Their "greed" more often than not results in a better, more entertaining product for you. Unless there's no real benefit for them, as in the good will and added sales will cost more than they can afford.
