RAGE Reviews - PC Users Raging - ATI RAGE Drivers

Today is the North American release date for RAGE, and the game is now unlocked in some territories on Steam. Reviews are also popping up. You can read about id's new first-person shooter on AtomicGamer, AZ Central, Computer and Video Games, Destructoid, Edge Magazine, Eurogamer, gamesTM, GameTrailers, guardian.co.uk, IGN, IncGamers, Joystiq, PC Gamer, and Strategy Informer. There also seems to be quite an uproar among some PC gamers, there's a lengthy thread on reddit saying "The PC Steam version of RAGE is riddled with graphical problems and bugs!" pointing to complaint threads on the Steam forums here and here as well as on the Bethesda forums. Another large reddit thread is titled "RAGE - We need to fix this problem," and another on the topic of the game seeming like a console port, pointing to this Steam Users' Forums thread saying the game requirements have changed: "Minimum: XBOX360 or PS3 - Recommended: XBOX360 or PS3." Finally, AnandTech points the way to a new AMD Catalyst - Rage Performance Driver.

Any word on new AMD Rage drivers, or fixes for the holes in the textures?

Anyone know how to fix this?

I'm using the newest AMD Rage drivers and get great framerates, just get missing textures which are dynamic as I move (see the other screenshots at the link). I've tried Catalyst 11.8 and 11.9 and both of these do not have the texture problem in Rage, but I get 10-15 fps.

I do have Catalyst Ai disabled (this fixed a major freezing problem), Triple Buffering enabled and Vsync enabled. Whether these settings are on or off, the problem still occurs.

Krovven--

If you're still using these variables--

vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 8192
vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly 8192
vt_pageimagesizeunique 8192
vt_pageimagesizevmtr 8192

and your card has less than 1.5GB, that may be the problem.

If you have a 768MB card, cut it by 1/2 (4096); if you have a 1 gig card, cut them by 1/3 (5460)...

It might be trying to cram too much texture info into your vram, preventing some textures from pre-fetching properly.

Just a guess, but it wouldn't hurt to try.
