The Bethesda Blog has word that in addition to John Carmack's previously announced midnight visit to the Mesquite GameStop for the RAGE launch, the id Technical Director will be joined by other id employees:

After long years of work, tonight the team at id Software will finally see its mutant baby RAGE running free through stores across the world. To celebrate, the team is heading down to their local GameStop midnight opening to hang with fans and sign some games.

If you’re in the Dallas area, drive on over to the Mesquite GameStop at 503 N. Galloway Avenue to join John Carmack (CTO), Tim Willits (Creative Director), Matt Hooper (Design Director) and other key members of the RAGE team. The crew will be arriving at 11pm Central — don’t be late!

Anyways, anyone that expects Rage to follow in the footsteps of more 'realistic' shooters (CoD, BF3, etc.) will be sorely disappointed, as they were with D3; id just doesn't do that type of game, they're old-school, and I should think proud of it. Nobody complained that Doom 3 wasn't a military shooter. They complained that most of the levels were too dark and that you couldn't hold a flashlight and gun at the same time. They also complained that the enemy spawns were predictable and contrived and that the gameplay as a whole was too slow-paced and not frenetic enough. On a side note, there's nothing particularly old-school about RAGE. It has regenerating health, for one. It also has vehicle segments and NPC interaction. Painkiller was old-school. RAGE is not.
