| stuck fov on 60 is not only lazy, but stupid. Fov is not optional, its a basic principle of human vision! And the closer you are to the screen, the higher fov you need not to get motion sick. |

Reviews seem to call this "safe."
As many here know, I hated Doom 3. It was one of the few games to actually anger me by being so bland and repetitive.
Going to wait a while on this one. |

Check the steam forums - it is possible to fix the FOV (thank god that will drive me nuts when it's released here in the UK on Friday) with cvars. People are playing with a FOV of 80. Texture pop looks to be a common complaint though - I won't know if this'll bug me until I see it.
Apparently the engine is designed to scale automajically to hardware (hence the lack of options) to hit 60fps consistently but the silly base FOV is just lazy (again) for a PC game.
Here's praying for a day 1 patch for the UK folk |

Plays smooth as silk almost too fast for this small a FOV. I've not played it much because I want to crash and play it first thing in the morning (not to mention I've already been checked out Dark Souls on the PS3 while Rage took an hour or more to install on the PC).
PC version has what seems an FoV of 60 cause it's making me fucking nauseous. No FoV option. Mouse acceleration up the asshole. NO Vsync option. NO Aim Toggle option. 0 Graphics options.
My first impression was good. Though the mouse acceleration is a bit too fast for my taste. And I'm praying you're wrong and that there is a FOV adjustment. WTF! Why is any game coming out in this day and age without proper widescreen options? Not that BS clipping of the top and bottom of the screen either.
Yup, I'm running Gtx580 also, i7 2600k@4.4ghz, 8gb ram and I've put Rage on a 64gb sandforce SSD. I'm getting all sorts of popin and the textures look like a half baked background in a shitty xbox game.
Granted some textures look nice and pop, but most look as if they're mixed with piss and shit. |

Sadly, I'm not really surprised. id wasn't the first ex-PC developer to abandon the PC but it will probably be one of the last, since most other developers already did it years ago. Way past time to put some good stock in CDProjekt.
Shite.. Like any Id game, all this stuff is do'able in the console. (name Id games with a good options menu, its always a cfg file).

Hey Darks how did you get 16x FSAA and what do you mean by everything turned up all the way? Have you looked at the textures up close? There are hundreds of users complaining of the terrible low-res textures on high-end rigs. My textures SUCK!!
But I agree the game is awesome.
Anyone figure out how to get better textures??? |

Oh well, 1 more week for Forza 4. You should regret it, I just finished playing it for the past 2 and a half hours and it kicks all kinds of ass. AI is smart and tricky. Full on 16X FSAA and everything turned up. The game looks great on the PC. Best Game ID has made yet.
I have had no performance issues at all on my GTX 580 Card. Game runs smooth and looks great. Love the atmosphere and the feel of the game. Weapons are killer too, the Wing Sticks Rock. Don’t know why some of you are so hell bent, but you’re missing out. |

From the comments here and some player vids I'm happy I listened to my guts and didn't preorder the game. Every bone in my body told me this game just doesn't cut it somehow, with no clear argument to back that up.
I still hope I'm eventually proven wrong, but so far it looks like I'm right once again... |

Seems a lot of people are having issues on the Steam forums. Quite a few getting a crash to desktop where I just get a slide show.
I've seen the PC vids running the game and texture load just wasnt as bad as what people are experiencing. Really hope we will see some quick fixes for this.

Jerykk wrote on Oct 4, 2011, 00:29: Nobody complained that Doom 3 wasn't a military shooter. They complained that most of the levels were too dark and that you couldn't hold a flashlight and gun at the same time. They also complained that the enemy spawns were predictable and contrived and that the gameplay as a whole was too slow-paced and not frenetic enough.
On a side note, there's nothing particularly old-school about RAGE. It has regenerating health, for one. It also has vehicle segments and NPC interaction. Painkiller was old-school. RAGE is not. Um, I didn't say people didn't like D3 because it wasn't a military shooter, I was referring to Rage in that regard. I only said they would be as disappoint as they were with D3 because they didn't research the game and had their hopes set too high.
I'll concede on regenerating health, but npc interaction and vehicle segments don't factor into the 'old-school' argument for me. |

Having a lot of fun so far. Only played a bit over an hour, though. Just some quick thoughts before I go to bed:
Graphics Graphics are awesome. Looks amazing (I'm on a GTX470). One issue is that I'm seeing pop-in on the side of the screen as I turn quickly. This isn't too bad once you go in to a small area, but if you're out on the road or in the main world area, it's very noticeable.
Weapons Wingstick best stick. I fucking love that thing. It's so awesome decapitating shit with it. Sometimes it returns if you're not hiding behind something, otherwise it breaks and you have to buy more (you buy 5 at a time).
I'm still using the starter weapons, but the combat shotgun feels great. The assault rifle feels good too. I hope to get a sniper rifle soon because this game just screams for it.
NPC/AI This is what I really love. You shoot an NPC and if he doesn't die, he falls over and tries to crawl away. You can shoot the helmet off NPCs. They'll stick their weapon around a corner and fire blindly. They toss grenades if you're in a hallway.
Didn't see any flanking, but there's not much opportunity for that that I can see. The missions I've done are all linear. You're basically just clearing areas out.
Oh, and if you kill an NPC from stealth and another one is nearby, the other one will notice his buddy just fell over with no head. Maybe it's a coincidence. Dunno yet.
Gameplay Enjoying the hell out of it so far. The quests are basically to go kill shit or collect shit. But I'm also only an hour in to the game. Just seeing the NPCs try to get away after I shoot them is entertaining enough. I also like that there's a lock picking mechanism. That is, you have to build components to break locks (looks cool, too). Adds at least a reason to craft shit.
Other thoughts I've encountered a couple of invisible walls. There was a walkway that ended near a ledge. I was unable to jump over it or move past it.
I've encountered what I would call a secret area, but only 1 so far. Had to blow a hole in the wall and then back track to get to it. Had some crystal in it. No idea what it does, but probably a crafting component.
Quick-Save isn't too terribly quick. I think I'm spoiled with ME2 and DX:HR quick save. Those were instant. This one is about 5 seconds. Certainly not bad, and honestly, it will prevent me from quick-saving every five seconds like I do in the other two games. Rounding a corner? Quick save. Opening a door? Quick save. I won't do that here. That's probably a good thing.
Overall Loving it. Great atmosphere. Great weapons. Great NPC deaths. |

Reverting to Catalyst 11.9 didn't help, made things worse actually.
Even dropping to 800x600 was still a slide show. And from what I'm hearing about the texture loading, I may be asking for a refund on this.
Now to try those Rage drivers...
