I'm going to be at the Mesquite, TX GameStop Monday night for the midnight Rage release if anyone wants to say hi.

Whore yourself some more why don't you, Johnny? Going to be playing on the 360 too while you're at it?
Get a life, moron.
Some of us (me) actually have both a gaming PC and a console, and have no problem with a game being (gasp!) released on both.
It's the content that matters, not the platform. Duh.
Not trying to defend Cutter here or anything but...seriously? 'It's the content that matters, not the platform?'
I mean...you think it doesn't matter when the quality of content is directly influenced by the obvious limitations of an old platform?
I don't have a beef with you owning both platforms...but you'd have to be living in some alternate dimension to believe that what we get from multiplatform games isn't diminished for the PC by the fact that the lead SKU for development is a console.
Uh, you actually want to blame the consoles for that?
Really?
As if a development team is incapable of delivering quality content on both?
So that's the consoles fault??
Really????
Oh you could, you know, shut up and allow other people their own opinions.

I think we may have different definitions of humble. John isn't one to seek center stage, feign superiority, or look down on anyone.
you should dig up some of his old .plan updates. he likes to throw in his ferraris and how he modded them to the point that they are not street legal. plus how many he owns at any given time. its quite the opposite of what you perceive.
your memory needs refreshment. he did not get rid of all his ferraris. and he also did not do it for his family. he sold some of them to fund his space venture.

The only hope I see on the horizon are the ruminations that id wants to revisit the Quake IP in the vein of Quake1/QW.

I hope that is indeed the case, as the weapons and navigation dynamics (zip lines) look appealing for DM.
But, unless JohnC has taken on pathological deception in the last few years as a new personality trait (which I doubt), I'm given little reason but to believe him at his word that the game wasn't designed for DM.
*sigh*
I wonder if there's really that much demand for stand-alone DM anymore, seeing as how everyone and their mom are now playing things like CoD and BF, with unlocks and persistent character growth etc.

Regarding Rage, what are the thoughts on the game?
I think it looks pretty sweet. But I can't really tell you one way or the other until Tuesday.

I'm in agreement. I think my only concern is the lack of DM, but, to be honest, I've found myself playing more co-op games than adversarial ones as of late. Probably due somewhat to my drop in snapfiring skills with age, but mores to do with the people I play with.

He's not really frederickson, is he? No one ever talked to frederickson. People treat Cutter like a normal human being.

This is what makes John Carmack awesome. Insane talent and amazing humbleness.
talent yes but humble is a bit of a stretch. have you ever tried engaging him about how many ferrari sports car he owns or previously owned? he lights up like a kid in a candy store.
