Elf Shot The Food wrote on Oct 2, 2011, 00:39: John Carmack doesn't shop at Wal-Mart. I can't believe some people are actually offended by this news. I thought that was a pretty amusing comment...;) I think it is faulty, though, because John C. probably prefers to shop at WalMart because not only can he usually save an extra 10%-15%, but it is very doubtful anyone at WalMart might ever recognize him.
Reading further into this really funny thread, I see even Blue got roped in here. But it's given me an idea for the next Max Payne game intro:
"I thought it might take a cold day in Hell before we were right, but I was wrong. We're all whores--all of us. Me, Blue, Carmack, Cutter, Fredrickson, and WaltC--all whores, every one of us. Nobody is listening anymore because they can't hear us. Or they won't. And who can blame the poor slobs? Hell, we own it. All of us. Every one of us. Whores. It's too horrible for words. And then I got to thinking about that after I'd downed my last rancid bottle of year-old scotch, what if..."
What'ya think? Eh? I think it has lots of potential.

This is a welcome step. I've taken to avoiding the comments lately for that very reason. It's sad to say, but when someone said "Welcome to Blue's News" regarding this thread, I couldn't help but agree. While some moderation will help, I think we all need to make an effort to improve the discussion around here. I'd hate to have people start abandoning the site simply because we can't control ourselves.

Regarding Rage, what are the thoughts on the game? It's iDs first direct production in awhile, and while I'd love to have it on day one I haven't yet purchased it. I'm still smarting from the mistake that was Brink; a Bethesda published game with a $60 price tag makes me wary now.
As for Carmack getting out, I think it's great. I'd be in line if I was anywhere near the area. It'd be better for us PC gamers if he did it at a different store, but brick & mortar PC game stores just don't exist anymore. |

Wow... can't believe what I just read.
I'd love for John to head on over to Australia, I'd even fly to another city here it meant I'd get to meet him.
He isn't perfect, but nobody is. He's a smart guy and gets my respect.
Anyway, glad you said something blue =) Some posts on here boggle the mind at how vindictive and vicious they are and I'm sure everybody will appreciate a little hand smacking. |

Blue didn't do anything. For a long time this forum didn't have a ban function. It was something that followed folks like Fred. He's been banned a few times since then.
But that Woody motherfucker? He gets the ban the minute he shows his face. Yeah, actually I take racist and antisemitic posts from some sort of white supremacist more seriously than most trolling.
I'm not trying to be the thought police here, and people should be allowed to express opinions, even if they are disagreeable. I tried to delete out the personal attacks from this thread, and will remind everyone once again that personal attacks on each other are not allowed.
I suppose I need to expand this to disallow personal attacks on others too... If you want to express the idea that a developer is a sellout, it can can be done without calling them a whore (and this after I just made a joke with that term the other day, I guess I need to watch myself on that too). It may take the fun out of posting about Bobby Kotick for some of you to have to avoid making childish puns out of his name, but I'm seeing more and more discontent here about they crap that goes on due to lax moderation, so I'm going to tighten things up a bit out of respect for those of you who don't need to be policed to act like adults, and that will be the first step. |

I'm also convinced that Cutter doesn't believe a thing he says. He just likes to bait you guys. And apparently it works. I don't think Cutter is smart enough to be a troll. I think he's genuinely this miserable/hypocritical.

I think we may have different definitions of humble. John isn't one to seek center stage, feign superiority, or look down on anyone. Sure he lights up--he loved those cars...who wouldnt? But he doesnt go around screaming "hey you poor schmuck, too bad you dont have one if these!" quite the opposite. In fact, if memory serves, he gave away his 328 to someone at Quakecon many years back.
Ferraris are but a fond memory to him now anyway. He got rid of them years ago after he got married. |

Wow.
Some of you guys seriously need to use that space between the ears before hitting "post". You know who you are. Yeah, the one that wants to hit "reply" because he's sure I'm talking about him.
I've never seen such a total lack of respect for this site, the people on it, and the person running it as I've seen this evening, and, quite frankly, if it were me, I'd not just ban you, but your entire netmask to make sure I never had to see such drivel again.
Seriously. Clean it up. This makes XBL look like church. |
