Out of the Blue

I asked last night for opinions about ditching the bulleted tech lists here in favor of a more timely approach to game news as it arrives. The limited response to this questions was mostly in favor of keeping things as they are, which I probably should have anticipated, since those of you who frequent this site are most likely doing so because you like the way things are. This brings up the question of whether making the change would be beneficial towards growing the audience here, which is desirable, versus the prospect of disappointing the regulars, which is not. This has me contemplating the idea of doing things differently as a trial for a day or two to allow everyone to compare the pros and cons of doing things each way.

Those are all great sections that might not generate many comments but are fantastic for headlines at a glance. Generic gaming headline sites are not hard to come by, no offense. What sets Blues apart is the diversity of information posted. Just my opinion anyway, its a little bit of everything.

Agreed. I always look at Metaverse and Legal Briefs. Mobilization, not at all, Tech Bits once in a while. I always skip Hardware Reviews though. Way I see it, there are so many hardware sites that's where I'm goin go anyway if I'm looking to buy some hardware and need reviews. I generally don't even glance in the left column.

I don't think you need to change things so much as maybe experiment with some new layouts. Let's face it, even at home we like to change things up once in a while for a fresh new feeling, but a new wardrobe, etc. Play around with some layouts, try some tabs - not live mind you, but on a beta site. We'll gladly give feedback.

Get more beta keys from conpanies to run contests. That always draws people in. Pass some out around here in return for written (p)reviews to help drive traffic. So many lesser sites of lesser quality do this stuff all the time. See if you can hit the companies up for general swag for contests to help promote their games which should drive page and ad revenues.

You're famous, dude. And it's always spoke well of you not taking advantage of that stuff for your own sake you're also missing out on some avenues to drive traffic and revenue. And you can still do it in your low-key way that will attract a better crowd. You don't need to turn this into a brightly lit, garish parody of Vegas in order to do it.

Edit: With the Tabs thing, make sure one is PC and the other Consolse to keep them seperate and thus keep the peace.
