Scrolls Case Headed to Court

Markus 'Notch' Persson tweets that the legal battle between Bethesda Softworks and Mojang is headed to court, saying simply: "The Scrolls case is going to court! Weee! :D". In March, Mojang announced plans for a collectible card-based game called Scrolls, which prompted Bethesda to sue, alleging this infringes on The Elder Scrolls brand. Notch initially expressed optimism this could all be sorted out without litigation, at one point suggesting a QUAKE III Arena deathmatch to settle matters, but apparently hotter heads have prevailed.

It's more like Notch releasing a soda and calling it Cola.

And this would be a problem?

No, it wouldn't. But then Notch would go and try to trademark "Cola." And then Pepsi and Coke would start throwing legal letters at him.

Again, none of this would have happened had NOTCH not tried to trademark the word Scrolls. Everyone can't stop from jizzing all over the guy, when HE is the one who tried to trademark a single fucking word, not Bethesda.

Bethesda is worried that if he gets a trademark on the word Scrolls, he can then turn around and fuck them over for using a game called The Elder Scrolls.

For all the complaints about how "evil" Bethesda is for doing this, I'm not really sure how else people want them to handle it? If Notch dropped his attempt to trademark Scrolls, the whole thing would go away, but he won't.

Ergo, Bethesda keeps fighting to protect 'The Elder Scrolls.' :-shrug-:
