Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Patch Notes

The Battlefield Blog now offers patch notes for the patch for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 that's expected on Wednesday for DICE's military shooter sequel. Here is what to expect of the 2.6 GB(!) update:

  • Removed some memory leaks
  • Fixed crashes when the game attempted to render lots of content (high detail, high FOV or multiple-monitor modes); this should particularly help multi-monitor users
  • Chat window no longer causes lag spikes
  • Chat window reworked opacity & visibility-time is controllable through settings in settings.ini
  • Clantag is remembered when using auto-login
  • Banner URLs can be up to 252 characters in length
  • SecuROM wrapper removed from non-Steam version
  • Minor performance enhancements
  • Reduced rubberbanding on servers with more than 24 active players
  • PrintScreen takes a screenshot, file stored in Documents\BFBC2\Screenshots directory

2.6 GB?!!! WTF.

Because they have said the way the engine is put together that patching is a nightmare and requires a damn near fresh install to apply the patched files. They are fail.
I know that is seriously messed up, I hope they fixed this for BF3. They should look to MMOs on how to do in-place updates.

Its nice that they are getting rid of SecuROM for us non-Steam folks. The ability to take screenshots is cool but its hilarious how long it took them to put it in the game. Now if only they would fix joysticks and VOIP.... They won't even acknowledge the issues so there is about a 0.00000000004% chance they will ever be fixed.

Thats what I get for buying a designed-for-console PC port I guess...

Problem is, that some of these "fixes" are patches to fix shit they broke in the LAST patch. Like the Clan Tag saving when autologin is enabled, chat window lag, etc.

The one thing that they NEED to fix is the zoom bug; when you try to scope your rifle, or bring it to your shoulder it will zoom back out immediately, so you need to let go of the button and hit it again for it to work properly. That's something they introduced with the last patch.

I don`t see wtf they market a patch so much. I mean, it is JUST a freaking patch. Release it and STFU. My Gods. lolol You`d think by the build up, that it was a game we have been waiting for.... like BF 3.

This must be 1 hell of a special mind blowing patch peeps. oooooh aaahhhhh
