Rogers Ordered to Stop Throttling WoW and Other Games

The Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission issued an order yesterday to Rogers Communications giving the internet provider until September 27 to formulate a plan to cease throttling online games such as World of Warcraft, reports the Calgary Herald. Noting that Rogers own traffic management policy states that "online games, such as World of Warcraft, should not be throttled or slowed down, and would only be affected if Rogers misclassifies the games and other peer-to-peer applications were running at the same time." For its part, Rogers states it has corrected the issue with World of Warcraft and is "not aware of any problems with any other online games." Thanks Ant via Slashdot.

In what alternative universe did this occur? This sort of monopolistic practice has always been the purview of the conservatives. The liberals have always pushed for liberalization of industry and competition. Any and all of the good consumer laws we have are due to them. Conservatives don't like competition, period. And instead of using deregulation to foster growth they do it to foster virtual monopolies. It took us decades to finally start getting things working in favour of the consumer which was undone in less than a decade by the evil axis of Reagan, Mulroney, and Thatcher. They basically dismantled anti-trust laws. We're corporate serfs thanks solely to the right-wing.

Nice place to live. Very archaic place for competition. And it doesn't matter if it's rogers, bell, shaw, cogeco, telus, and so on. It's either east, or west and it's the same shit. Different pile.

This is one place we agree entirely and it's tiresome. I've finally hit the point where I'm really looking at getting out. It's just a question of where to go. I don't see this country changing for the better anytime soon. Let them revel in their mediocrity.
