No, it's prevalent in CULTURE, period. Women are probably being treated worse today by society in general than they were 20 years ago. Whether that's because of the rise of internet and the massive influx of porn (which, let's face it, doesn't exactly cast women in a strong light) or something else, I have no idea.
But it's ludicrous to somehow imagine that this is a "gaming culture" problem. Gaming culture is made up of people from ALLLLLLLLL walks of life. By saying it's a gaming culture problem, you're basically saying that it's because these people play games, they are therefore assholes to women.
And that's a viewpoint I have a serious issue with. Games in and of themselves are no more sexist (or violent or whatever) than any other form of media and entertainment.
