Dead Island "Make Up" Promised

Dead Island publisher Deep Silver is promising a "make up" for gamers due to the incorrect build of its zombie game released on Steam. This was subsequently patched, but a note from the publisher (passed along by Gamer's Hell) describes their plans for compensation: "Deep Silver plans to announce a 'make up' to fans who were affected by the day 1 PC issues, stay tuned in coming days for those details as internal discussions are ongoing on our end." They also pass along updated notes for yesterday's patch, saying the notes circulating prior to the patch release were not final. Since Steam never posted about the patch, these notes follow.

They'll make it up to you by including Tages in the next patch.

Don't listen to Deep Silver. They're scumbags on a level of Activision and JoWood.

It's just awkward to have a situation like that where it feels the world is in a continuous loop and that what you do has little to no actual effect in the world which is the problem.

It's a 4 player coop game in a 'mostly' open world. What would you do if all containers, weapons, supplies, money and zombies didn't respawn? You'd be standing around stroking each other dicks because there would be nothing to do.

I never said that I hated it, just that it's awkward when all the events in the game transpires yet (as my example) here we have the same truck driven in to the same hut respawning over and over again. It's just awkward to have a situation like that where it feels the world is in a continuous loop and that what you do has little to no actual effect in the world which is the problem.

You're right about the zombies though, but even they respawn at the exact same place in the same exact position which makes playing through an area extremely predictable and, at times, boring.

I would love to see this game use a random generator.

any way to adjust FOV?

edit: guess not from looking over at the Steam forums. FOV is hard coded and can't be changed.

The update is what causes the micro stuttering, every time the game is launched it resets its CPU priority. Multiplayer was the big draw of this to me so I'm really frustrated that I can't play right now.

Heh then i'd have to use a VPN for ever and ever. If i'd ever log-in again without VPN it would be relocked - and multiplayer would be impossible as well. (I know about the VPN trick to go about Unlock dates and that is not comparable ;(

Yeah, fun game but no one here is experiencing the micro stuttering? I found a fix around it but the devs should address it.

Mine did that until the update - but I think the stuttering had to do with co-op connectivity, as it started once everyone started joining my game. Now after the update it runs smooth as silk - but no co-op play.

I like the regen stuff. I found it odd that zombies were back in my path after clearing an area, but I get it - it makes sense to me. The weapons thing is nice ala Dead Rising. Makes it more of a challenge and checking stats of weapons when finding items and keeping them nice.

It is very similar to Dead Rising 2 without a timer, Borderlands for finding tons of weapons in crates, and L4D with the different types of zombies and their movements.

Cool game.

@eRe4s3r, Have you tried using a VPN to fool steam into thinking you're in a different region?

I've read of people doing this to get the north American unlock times

Gotta agree, buggy as it may be but it has a certain addictive quality once you beyond the extremely daft resort (where you don't find any good weapons )

And since nobody is selling this game in Germany, and even Imports can not be activated on Steam, I can now officially proclaim that i had to get it illegally. And you can call me dirty pirate all you want, i wanted to buy it on GMG but steam does not allow German players to register the game, like at all.

How fucking retarded is that, you don't ever sell a mature game on steam, unless you want all of Germany to pirate your game. Well anyway.. that pissed me off, now i am stuck with 40€ credit on GMG and got nothing to buy with it...

Seems to me this game is better suited to single-player than co-op. Co-op effectively destroys any sense of tension or fear and this game would benefit from both.

Third, the item regeneration is a little awkward. While events will pass, the items you have used will continuously come back. For example: when you find the boyfriend who tells you to take his girlfriend to the lighthouse and use the truck, well, when you complete the quest and go back to him and he is zombified, the truck and every other item save for what's in the bags has returned. This happens to nearly all items in the game.

Seriously, what is it with people and item regeneration?

It's a 4 player coop game in a 'mostly' open world. What would you do if all containers, weapons, supplies, money and zombies didn't respawn? You'd be standing around stroking each other dicks because there would be nothing to do.

Sadly this means little at the moment when all people can do is play solo in a coop world.

2.5 hours in. Haven't even touched the first mission, having fun just exploring and messing around.

Only major annoyance is the pickup with F even though it is set to E....oh well. Just have to be careful not to backup with F when I am looking at an item...

OH, and they turned off co-op with the update....guess they have server overload and can't handle the traffic. Which would explain my CTD the other night....

The biggest problems I have with the game so far is the absolutely atrocious map, quest layout, item regeneration and driving mechanics.

The first being that to scroll the map takes too much mouse movement and you're not able to zoom all the way out. This makes having to search through and go over the map in general a real nuisance when you go back to it several times.

From there, the quest layout is another annoyance where it will only track one and even then, it seems to be incredibly dodgy on which quests it will mark for you and those which it will not. I am in Act 2 now and aside from the main quest to get to the water station, no other quests are being marked on the map.

Last, the driving mechanics seem to be an after thought. While it's very satisfying to squash zombies and see them peel off your windshield, you get hung up on the smallest of things and obstacles simply do not move. I was on the beach with my truck and it would not allow me to drive over a sand castle or a parasol yet here I am able to drive it in five feet of water.

Other then that, I've been having a blast save for the odd crash here and there but it does feel like this would be a modders dream game if they got their hands on the file...

I'm a few hours in and am enjoying the game much more than expected. I was ready to dismiss it as just another zombie game, but I'm enjoying it more than any zombie game I've played previously.

The map is HUGE! At first I was going to forgo driving, but some places I really don't want to walk back to again. The game seems like a poor mans Fallout with Zombies. I am having a blast and the longer I play the cooler the weapons are getting.

I will admit that killing zombies over and over might get repetitive. I just think I really haven't encountered enough variety yet, but I know they are there. There are a ton of quests to do and lots to explore as well, if you choose to.

Alcohol now stacks. I swear it wasn't doing that before. Also, you can now pick up weapons above your level. For me that was huge and not on the list. I had to keep passing on weapons I couldn't pick up to use later.

Both of those sucked, and it was nice to find they both worked now (especially the higher level items one). It was kind of hard to believe they wouldn't let you take away a higher level item when you found it, I guess it's good that the developers thought so too

They are going to give everyone that bought Dead Island a copy of Dead Island.

This made me laugh.
