Ships Ahoy - Space Marine

The Space Marine Website has news that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is now available for Windows and consoles, offering a third-person action/RPG set in the Warhammer future. Here's word on the game and the co-op update expected in about a month:

Combining intense melee and ranged combat, Space Marine puts players into the boots of one of humanityís elite soldiers, genetically engineered and equipped with state of the art weapons and armor. Players are dropped right into the action as they battle to defend an Imperial Forge World, a planet sized factory, from an invasion by the savage and brutal Orks, using the most devastating weaponry mankind has at its disposal.

Space Marine also features 8 vs 8 class-based multiplayer where players take on the role of either Space Marine or Chaos Space Marine in a battle to the death. Players can choose the balanced Tactical and Chaos Space Marine, the heavy weapons focused Devastator and Havoc or the jump pack equipped melee specialist Assault Marine and Raptor.

A free downloadable Co-operative gameplay mode called Exterminatus will also be made available to all players in early October. This mode pits a team of four Space Marine players against numerous AI controlled enemies in a fight to survive. Featuring dynamic challenges and global leaderboards, Space Marineís co-op mode will keep players engaged for months to come.

I haven't even touched the campaign yet. I'll get to it eventually to unlock the special Ultramarines skin. Multiplayer is just too damn fun. The customization you can get through leveling and challenges is great. I usually run a heavy bolter, quick setup, and iron halo. 3000 rounds a minute to your face. Do you want to look unique? You can. SM has full chapter skinning. All of the chapters are already pre-built. Your armor has multiple pieces you can set a primary and detail color on. There are like 8 different models of armor you unlock

This is a relief, I was hoping MP would be a lot of fun. I feel like there has been little to no coverage of what the MP game is so I wasn't expecting much. This should be arriving in the mail today, now I'm excited to play it.

Would be nice if they'd allow players to be Orks as well. DLC perhaps. And I thought I heard tyranids were in the game? So weird that they would not show off this other content...

The PC gamer review didn't even mention anything about the MP, almost like they've played the demo of the game and not the final game.

I did like the demo a lot but like others have mentioned too many games coming out this time of the year to even bother with this one. I'll probably grab it down the road or rent it.

I got it. The demo is fairly fun but awful short. Regular game is of course the same kind of gameplay but if you enjoy a mindless romp with cool 'finishing kills' and lots of blood-soaked 'orks', it's bloody good fun.

Two reviews I've read have said, however, that what you see in the demo is literally all you'll get. You won't get more moves or become more bad-ass or anything.

It's basically 10 hours of what you played in the demo, with an hour of fighting Chaos thrown in at the end.

SpaceMarine is awesome, just to throw that out there. Too bad it came out during a busier release schedule.

Rumor is it's only 10 hours, so not really worth the full price to me. I think it's a Christmas sale purchase.

Yeah there's just too many games out now/coming out to bother with this at full price right now.

I'm still on the fence... If I get super bored again, I'll likely pick it up... even with 4 brand new games I haven't started yet... Hard to say...

I enjoyed the demo, but in the end, it's just another shooter, so not sure.. maybe when it's cheaper.

Played the demo - got bored after about 5 minutes of slaughtering Orks. Weird, considering I'm a fan of the setting, the genre, and the developers. Maybe the full game is worth playing?
