Origin EULA Amended

As noted on GameSpot, the EULA for EA's Origin service has been amended in a clear attempt to allay fears of intrusiveness inspired by launguage it previously contained. The EULA no longer says you must avoid using the service if you don't want your information to be collected, and EA has also removed the portion saying they may "use this information combined with personal information for marketing purposes and to improve our products and services. We may also share that data with our third party service providers in a form that does not personally identify you." It also no longer states that "EA reserves the right to monitor communications on the Application and disclose any information EA deems necessary." And here is some new language that's been added:

EA would never sell your personally identifiable information to anyone, nor would it ever use spyware or install spyware on users' machines. We and agents acting on our behalf do not share information that personally identifies you without your consent, except in rare instances where disclosure is required by law or to enforce EA's legal rights.

Makes you wonder how many canceled preorders it took for them to make this amendment. Still not enough for me to re-preorder it.

It's okay if Steam has this policy but not EA. PC gamers show their hypocrisy once again.

IMHO I feel you make a very good point Rattlehead, but having to choose who I trust between the two, it definitely isn't EA. They have proved time and time again they can't be trusted. I don't know, maybe you have had a bad experience with Steam/Valve, but I haven't, and trust them far more then I do EA; however, I do still watch and monitor Steam's activities regardless.

Fuck them both, but atleast Steam has a fucking clue as to who their customers are and want.

EA is one giant, bloated, massive lumbering, machine of uselessness which leaves behind large piles of fecal matter wherever it roams spewing dipshit with whomever and whatever it comes in contact with.

You can just feel some upper echelon shitwick at EA going "Dammit! Those fucking PC gamers! We were going to get rich selling all their info!"

We would never sell your PI to anyone, now that you found out that's what we were going to do.

Fuckers.

It's more likely that being it's illegal(privacy and personal protection acts) to do what they wanted to do in germany, and in canada. They needed to amend the eula.

This EULA is like Swiss Cheese, and they'll do what they want when they want and use anyone of those loop holes to avoid a potential lawsuit!!!

Fuck EA, Battlefield, and Origin.

Kind of irrational on my part, but I'm not interested in EA, the Battlefield series, nor their Origin service. They have no behaved in ways that would allow me to not be so negative.

"Enforce EA's legal rights."

So, hypothetically, I have one legal EA game and 5 bagillion pirated ones. Will this software sniff that out and cause a good beat-down on my door? I'm actually not worried about that scenario right now as the behavior that would even start the chain of events I just don't do anymore.
