Portal Co-creator's Quantum Conundrum Revealed

There's a preview on GameSpot with a first look at Quantum Conundrum, the first project from Portal co-creator Kim Swift since she left Valve for Airtight Games. Like Portal, the game is a first-person puzzle platformer based around a physics device: Word is it is: "set in an inexplicably large mansion with themes heavily rooted in science. Your puzzle-solving tool is an IDS (interdimensional shift device) glove that lets you shift dimensions--therefore changing the physics of your environment--as you make your way down to the bowels of the manor." They outline some of the puzzles they experienced, and describe the project as "a funny, charming, and quirky puzzle platformer that would appeal to gamers of all ages and skill levels." The game will offer four to six hours of play when it is released early next year for Windows and consoles, and they offer a trailer narrated by Swift showing Quantum Conundrum in action. Thanks nin.

I wouldn't call it different. It is basically Portal with worse writing AFAICS.

So let me get this straight, you've judged the game's writing from watching those three very simple puzzles, and listening to only the video voice over and not seeing or hearing one actual bit of game dialog?
Well, everything story-wise in the trailer was clichÚd.
Hopefully I'll be proved wrong and this is an amazing game, really different from Portal and full of great gameplay.

Right now it looks like Portal 3: Candyland.

Same here. I really like their art direction and it seems like it has some pretty neat atmosphere. I'll be keeping a look out for this one.
Ditto. Looks great! I hope the game is funny like Portal.

This is bluesnews, of course that's what he's saying. I'm surprised no one has screamed "CONSOLITIS" yet.

To me, this game looks like it will be enjoyable.

Well, in all honesty, virtually every game has lesser writing. It's a fair assumption this will. Otherwise it'll be one of the best written games of all time.
Amazingly, Portal managed this despite having extremely little writing.

Something a bit different, which is cool. Can't count it out yet,
as it could prove to be something new, interesting, and fun. And as Mastaba pointed out, the difficulty will most likely increase as you progress, similar to how Portal 1 & 2 did.

It appears to have some potential, as long as the level difficulty gets appreciably more difficult the deeper into the game you go. The extreme simplicity of what was shown in this demo is completely understandable considering its the first levels of the game and you need that simplicity to learn the game mechanics.

So...tell me again why I should want to play an easier kid-centric version of portal?

Without the writing Portal wouldn't be Portal.
