I loved blowing the tunnel up into the yard of Rock with the detpacks...so satisfying.
Yeah, you could hide it near the pit and time it well so that people who came through that tunnel blew up with it.

omigod, I did totally forget about emp grenades!
They knocked out turrets, dispensers, and other players grenades.
So if you got caught in the blast while carrying any grenades, you became the fourth of July on legs. If friendly fire was on, this could be disastrous for your team and score (especially if you were a demoman on defense).

'nade spam was always a risk, but honestly, all the varied game play opportunities were nothing short of brilliant!
I'll take the occasional 'all out' dispersal, or suicide bomber, over a complete castration of a strategic element.

Haha yeah I loved em. They were quite effective against camping demomen too or snipers and others on the balcony in 2fort since they worked through walls. It was really funny when you blew em up with their own pipe bombs when they walked near em.
Ah well, so many funny situations. Hurts my heart to see it dumbed down that much.

I still remember the first day I logged into a Quake TF server, quite by accident. I was like 'what the hell is this?'

I immediately fell in love.

But seriously, who remembers that stuff, eh?
I mean, who remembers a demoman that used demolitions packs (+detpack5)?
Been there, done that. One of the things I like about TF2, less nade spam. Although I remember the EMP nades from engie with fondness (you didn't mention those)

I havent logged into TF2 in ages. Is there any difference between player accounts with regards to those who bought the Orange Box (or TF2) before they went F2P, or new players who joined in after the game went F2P?

You are a premium member by default, of course, and you get a unique hat that shows you bought it. To their credit, there's really not much difference between a free account and a premium one. You get more backpack space and the ability to trade, stuff like that, but gameplay-wise they are identical.

Yeah, lots of different (and funny) tactics were possible with grenades, spikes, conc jumps, feign death, tranq gun, det pack, etc, etc, etc.
But even the slightest complex gameplay is bad nowadays.

Some of us still play the original TF. It's better than TFC and TF2 in everything but graphics.

Was there playing TF when it first came out.. and now 15 years later, the most fun I am having in TF2 is with the Quake 1 Rocket Launcher, taking it back to the soldier roots.

Team Fortress has been done so much justice over the years by it's creators & Valve. Happy 15th, ya loons!
