Driver: San Francisco DRM Relaxed

The Ubisoft Forums have word that Ubisoft has reconsidered the plan to use their unpopular always-on DRM in Driver: San Francisco, and players will not be required to be connected to the internet to play the upcoming open-world driving action game (thanks Shacknews). Here's the announcement:

We've heard your feedback regarding the permanent internet connection requirement for Driver and have made the decision to no longer include it. So this means that Driver PC gamers will only need to sign in at game launch but can subsequently choose to play the game offline.

That RPS article about From Dust is unbelievable. It's like Ubisoft is actively TRYING to become the most hated fucking publisher on the planet.

And... we're just waiting for the final votes to come in, folks. Tense moments here, obviously, especially in the Ubisoft camp, who have been campaigning so long and so hard to take over the coveted top spot... here we go, there's the final tally, AND... IT'S A TIE! UNBELIEVABLE! EA and Ubisoft are TIED for the worst pieces of shit in gaming!

I can see tears of laughter all around in the Ubisoft camp, and it looks like the EA folks are just relieved they're still at the top. Wow, who'd have believed it, folks. A tie!

As usual, there's just one disgruntled asshole sitting in Activision's camp, by the name of Bobby Kotick, and he's just shrugging and saying he's not interested in anything but the three words "Call of Duty." But over at EA and Ubisoft it's joy and happiness all around, mixed in with a good dose of disbelief.

Well, and I think that'll wrap up our broadcast tonight, folks. Ubisoft made a major push with their From Dust debacle, and have actually managed to TIE the #1 position for most hated publisher. All their hard work has finally been rewarded. Well done to all our fine Canadian friends.

And I think we will leave you with that. Good night, everybody!
