If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm apparently using Catalyst 8.8 from November.
I think I always download these but just forget to run them. Do newer games work with that old driver? I used to run v9.7, but had problems with newer games with my old, updated XP Pro. SP3 and 4870 (512 MB) video card. Newish games I've played with it have been Witcher 2, Duke Demo, Brink.
Didn't notice any issues and didn't find myself wanting more frames even with settings maxed.
This is on a 5870. Interesting, I have had a few new demos and betas that didn't show graphics correctly. |

I couldn't get these to install on my 6950 that is flashed to a 6970 (I did do an uninstall first). At first I got a blue screen, then on subsequent atttempts I got "No compatible hardware found. Despite that linked hotfix not being for my card, I tried it and it worked! This on Windows 7 64-bit.

the auto fan control on these still sucks, I go from 30% fan on idle desktop to 35% fan under heavy gaming. Still have to manually crank up the fans before gaming |

I've used multiple mismatched Crossfire setups in my day, with beta drivers, and no lack of overclocking/tweaking - If this stuff is as common is it would seem, shouldn't I have been gruesomely killed in some sort of explosive driver snafu by now?
5-6+ years ago, sure, the drivers were a mess - now? Either fanboi lulz, or PEBKAC. I HAVE had a "blue screen" (actually, black screen then reboot but the Windows error log called it a "blue screen"..) on Windows 7 64-bit when running the AMD Catalyst Driver Update. I was having problems with a few - and only a specific few - games at the same time. What fixed it? I replaced the power supply which in hindsight was getting wonky. No issues since.
By the way: a first for me! First time I've seen a spam post on Blues.. |

I've historically been a big defender of ATI drivers, because I never had trouble. nvidia's drivers were always way worse. Until a couple of months ago, when AMDTI released a set that bluescreened my computer on install, crashed it on its next boot, and on the next boot displayed everything with a neon green tinge.
I figured out the green, eventually: Apparently they broke EDID support at the beginning of the year and still haven't fixed it. If you just disabled it, it gets rid of the green. |

I've installed dozens of ATI drivers over the years, and I never had a problem until now. You are running the same 11.8 preview drivers I was, which seemed bug free, so you might want to skip these official 11.8's and avoid any headaches.

You do know that you're supposed to uninstall the previous drivers first, don't you? While installing over previous drivers works, it will sometimes lead to problems (e.g. when the current drivers contain a file that is older than the one in the previous release).
In any case, the installer kept crashing... I ended up using the installer from the preview drivers... problem solved.
