Nexus 2 Announced

Most Wanted Entertainment announces Nexus 2, an upcoming sequel to Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, their space-based tactical real-time strategy game. The original Nexus was was released in May 2005, and the following year what seemed to be a teaser for a sequel popped up, but no more has been heard of this since. "We re-launched the original Nexus on Steam a while ago, and even now we see a substantial amount of new players buying the game each month", says MWE owner Mike Horneman. "We have a very vocal fan base, and know that there's a large number of people out there who would love to see a sequel made." The game is being self-funded by Most Wanted Entertainment with the assistance of crowdsourced financing through GamesPlant, and while they don't share any details about the game at this point, they do outline how the financial part of this will work:

"We're happy to put a large chunk of our own resources into making Nexus 2", said Horneman, "but realistically we cannot fund the whole project ourselves. So, with GamesPlant, we can offer all our fans out there a chance to be part of the Nexus 2 project. The more you pledge, the more you will benefit; from digital pre-orders, through special boxed editions and your name included in the game, right up to profitsharing; everyone can be a part of this."

The GamesPlant site allows users to "pledge" funds to projects, with the money only actually deducted if the project meets its start criteria. If Most Wanted's Nexus 2 plan succeeds, it will be the largest game ever started on the site.

Click that SUBMIT NEWS button on left side of screen for slashdot. I've had a number of front page stories accepted before.

I'll try and do one to /. if you try and do kotaku.

Wish I could donate but I'm flat broke ATM...
You can support with as low as 5 euro (about the cost of a pizza) to get your name mentioned in game credits and website.

Talk about freakin' irony, I was JUST watching all the walkthroughs for the first game, the vids on YouTube for the BSG mod and the Nexus2 tech demo all just yesterday! I saw the tech demo and after wiping the drool off, went to reinstall the original again. Reminded me of the first time I saw X (X: Beyond the Frontier and it's current incarnation, X3: Terran Conflict) running at a Circuit City when it was only a tech demo in 1997. I just stood there with my mouth open and eyes wide, amazed...looking forward to N2 now, best of luck to them. Wish I could donate but I'm flat broke ATM...

I do hope a big investor comes along though, 400k is a big goal (haven't seen any project on gamesplant ever reach such values..)
Actually, the numbers when it was at 3 supporters was 2570 euros. Which means one of the first 3 supporters did the 2500 package, another did the 50 and another did the 20.

I'm going to guess that wont be the last 2500 supporter either. A share of 50% of the net revenue is pretty big.

Here's what the FAQ says about the revenue share option:
Once a developer has finished and published the game, the generated net revenues (gross revenues minus related costs) will be split between the developer and all involved supporters, depending to the percentage that the developer has chosen to share. So the more you support, the more you get from the revenue share (for a period of 3 years, starting from the release date).

I'm not sure if this is customary for games-plant projects to offer this, but I think its a great idea. To let supporters share in the company, and get involved (comes with beta access too and I imagine they will be listening to the platinum supporters more than the others).

In 1 day (I'm assuming it started at 175 days) they have 1% of funding, which is looking good for complete funding.

Sadly, I will only be able to pledge 50 euros, but I hope that helps and that others follow. We really need this game!!

I'm spreading the word to every one I know!

Just pledged 250 euros "359 US". If my business meets it's forecast this winter I'll most likely do the 2500 euros and hope it makes a profit.

Edit: Like post 21 says, we just need 8000 people paying 50euro each to meet the goal, if it's anything like the last one then it's well worth that amount to get the game via digital download and a boxed copy.

When Nexus TJI demo came out, I played it through like 10 times. It was such a revelation: a capital ship-based RTS with individual targetable subsystems, fighters, bombers, shields, stations, and on and on. Real tactial sci fi beef jerky. And that gorgeous engine! It's what a Star Trek tactical game should have been.

When the game was finally released, I was out of cash, so good to know it's on Steam. I'll have to go get myself a copy and play it now.

And here's to hoping these guys pull off a sequel. This game was pretty unusual, and the world is a better place when immersive games like this exist.

I pledged 250 - naturally this had just to fall in the year of my move so thats all there is, but I've been preaching that i want a sequel for this!

And hey - we need only 1666 people paying 250 ;p (or 8000 paying 50!)

I do hope a big investor comes along though, 400k is a big goal (haven't seen any project on gamesplant ever reach such values..)

Indeed, this is the best news all year. I just signed the "make nexus 2 petition" yesterday, boy was that a quick response "sarcasm". Nexus TJI is still my favorite game, the multiplayer was even fun although nobody played it and the servers went down not long after it was released. I still have my boxed copy and will never get rid of it. I've told countless #'s of people about Nexus and they bought it from steam and loved it. As for the really difficult missions, just look for the walkthrough and it will get you through those impossible ones. The sneaking through the asteroid field to approach the shielded base was painfully hard but I did it after reading what others had done. Funny though the Battlestar Galactica mod was just released the other day for Nexus TJI. There's a star trek mod for it as well that's fun and some additional missions made by players that are also quite good.

Whoa, whoa, what? Joint Task Force got a coop patch? I thought it was just a pretty but throwaway RTS that everyone forgot about, and you're telling me people are still playing it?

I never thought there would be a sequel - this is welcome news! The first was an awesomely epic space opera with tons of capital ship porn to go around. Very excited about this. Where do I donate?

Not donate, but contribute to development in return for a copy of the game (and other stuff)
http://www.games-plant.com/nexus2/
Starting at 20 euros pre-order you get a copy of the finished game.

Interestingly, they offer a 2,500 euro contribution option where everyone who does that much gets to share in 50% of the money.

Its like the Kickstarter type funding. You only get charged (and they only get the money) if they hit the goal before the deadline. So there's almost no risk to pledging the money if you want the game.

Awesome news. Nexus is one of my favourite games, nothing has ever been as much nerdy fun as unleashing a volley of those huge nukes, or stalking a ship cloaked and breaking it with a volley before it gets it's shields up. Possibly the best news all year, this.
