Last Call for Free Brink DLC; Splash Damage: Brink Has "Done Alright"

The Bethesda Blog warns the Agents of Change DLC for Brink won't be free much longer, saying those interested should download it now. On a related note, Joystiq has comments from Splash Damage about Brink following a GDC Europe presentation about the first-person shooter. Lead designer Neil Alphonso admits: "A lot of the game's complaints were entirely valid," presumably referring to player complaints, but that: "It was rough, but in the end the game's done alright." He says the recent temporarily free Brink DLC helped boost player populations, but :"We still have a lot of work to do, honestly," he told them, "We have to support those people." Thanks nin.

I tried it during the Steam free weekend and did not enjoy it very much. The graphics were pretty good, that is about the only thing I liked, otherwise it just seemed like a mishmash of features from other games, but not doing any of them particularly well.

I too enjoyed the free weekend of Brink. It got me into the whole team based shooter vibe again. But it wasn't $20-$25 worth of entertainment. Inspired by that I went to play Team Fortress 2 instead, which I haven't played in years. Instant-love all over again!

I played brink during the steam free weekend and was seriously considering buying it until I discovered that there is no possibility of ever getting community produced content. The levels that shipped with the game are interesting enough the first couple of times you play through them. The problem is that they get old quick.

If Bethesda/splash damage is really interested in supporting the game and the community - a great place to start is by releasing the SDK and tools. Games with vibrant user communities do better and sell more. I have bought games simply to play/produce community content. ID has done very well, in part, because of their dedication to their player community. Valve is another success story largely driven by a rabid fan base that gets consistent and timely mod support.

I saw this post once before.

As I recall Blue erased and banned the account rather quickly.

In all my years at Blues, I don't recall ever seeing advertisers/spamers in the comments. 1st time for everything I guess.

"How's Brink?"

"Eh, it's alright."

RollinThundr Apr 17, 2013, 12:25: Eh really tossing stuff like that in there only to get your panties all bunched up. If you really want to call that trolling sure.

Mr. Tact Apr 17, 2013, 12:33: Pretty sure that's the definition of trolling...
