I'm replaying Morrowind atm as well - seems to be Bethesda month here in Barad-Dur. Honestly? Both FO:3 and FO:NV are solid investments--each have their caveats. I wouldn't feel bad getting a bargain on either. Besides, the Year-end Steam Sale will have both again...probably at an even deeper discount, seeing as Skyrim is around the corner (drool).
Sidenote: Where is Barad-Dur?

What the heck is ATS? Do you mean VATS? If so, both FO3 and New Vegas have it and yes, it can be completely ignored. Is it beneficial to ignore it? Not really. But just because something is beneficial doesn't mean you have to use it. If you think a gameplay mechanic makes a game too easy, don't use it. I actually downloaded mods to make FO3 and NV harder.
That said, iron sights in NV are pretty overpowered. They completely ignore your weapon skill levels so you basically have 99% accuracy while using them. Like VATS, you don't have to use the sights and there also mods that factor your skills into iron sights accuracy. |

If I recall FO3 didnt have ironsights correct?
I foudn ignoring the ATS in FO3 wasn't beneficial...and ultimately only played FO3 for about 30min because of it.
So with ironsights and changes, can the game truly be played while completely ignoring the ATS?
Also don't want a mini-cutscene every time I kill something.

| Yeah but you don't need to use it, the game is fairly well balanced in accommodating both systems. It has iron sights as well for those that prefer them. |

If Obsidian makes another Fallout game and improves their dungeon design, they may just have the best RPG evar. I think Obsidian has already improved on this quite a bit in the DLCs. The story of the Survivalist in Honest Hearts as well as quite a few running stories in Old World Blues' random spots really put in that flavor that I missed from FO3. |

If Obsidian makes another Fallout game and improves their dungeon design, they may just have the best RPG evar. Yea FO3 has waaay better dungeons. Absolutely love the FO3 environment. I tried to like NV but the world pales in comparison, to me. I already had FO3 but I also picked up last week's STEAM deal to get all the DLC and have it on STEAM. Well worth it. Fully modded it's a fantastic game. But it's difficult to mod extensively and keep stable but it's good for me with only a ctd every four hours or so and the savegame isn't corrupting. Here's my mod list:

The full game plus all DLC for $15 is the sweetest deal I've had all year. I just picked up Fallout 3 during the summer sale for $11... Went through it; it was alright. But I haven't dug into the DLC much... Went to the island thingy, did the house 'event' thingy, but lost interest (and time)...
Nice seeing Terraria back up there, even if I can't get much enjoyment out of it.

New Vegas is a better game, but I still think Fallout 3 has a better environment. I wish we could import Fallout 3 into the NV engine and play it in hardcore mode. I've got mods that give a hardcore like experience, but I like the way NV did it (with some tweaks). FO3 definitely has better dungeons.
