I just find it hilarious that people are volunteering to let one entity dictate the terms by which they buy games online. Yes, Valve has been very, very good so far... but I don't trust them to reflexively do the right thing. I don't trust anyone to reflexively do the right thing, much less somebody with a stranglehold on a market.
If anything, I encourage publishers to push back against Steam, if for no other reason than to keep them honest.
I can agree with your statement(s) to an extent, but it should be made an option so people aren't pigeon holed into using Origin to enable them to play a particular game, and vise versa.
