Probably a good thing that you're not going to play in the Alpha, seeing as how it's already over.

So in a roundabout way I'm playing the same build I played in 1942.

Engie with M1, bazooka, and repair.

It has the same stats in BC2 and BC2:V except a little bit faster.

See now, that's the exact reason why I haven't used the garand. Used it plenty in BF1942. It'd just feel weird to me to use it in modern game, particularly one that has tons of new weapons.

Newer doesn't necessarily mean better ya know

I don't need a scope to shoot a pixel on the screen. The M1 gives me the right power, accuracy, and range to dominate mid, hold my own close, and do decently even at sniper distances. If the guy runs up close its rate of fire lets me quickly hit them about 3 or 4 times and that's going to bring them down with the dmg+ (other perk is usually speed).

Bazooka the tanks and repair your teammates, hop in a chopper or drone every now and then, and I'm more often than not on top of the scoreboard in pub.

Not going to play in the alpha for BF3, I'll wait until a few days into release probably so the server browser might be more stable.

THAT WAS YOU!?!

*shakefist*

That was a lot of people, really. I tried not to use it myself, though there's no real way to un-see that dorito-of-doom running along behind the bushes to flank you.

I spent most of my time playing as an engie in the Alpha and fiddled a bit with support to test out the bipod/suppression dealie.

There's definitely plenty of balancing to do. Engineers for example get 8 freaking RPGs, and they get reloaded by ammo packs. I remember defending one path into the subway by spamming rockets at the entrance any time I saw movement, and a support guy was beside me prone, having dropped an ammo pack behind me. Didn't run out of RPG's until the round was over, plenty of double and triple kills from that situation.

It was a bit absurd. Still baffled why they kept trying to take that route instead of the other 2 options, but they just kept funneling right on in like a bunch of lemmings.

It has always been an option in BC2. It's considered a casual feature where as Hardcore servers have it disabled. 2D spotting is enabled via the map, but Hardcore doesn't have the mini map and you have to actually open your map to see the 2D spots. I only play on Hardcore mode in BC2 because I hate the 3D spotting and insane damage a player can take in casual mode. The Alpha was casual mode.

I had a total blast playing BF3! Now I'm wishing that prone could be added into BC2.

Only ever tried normal mode in BC2 once. As soon as I saw how many rounds it took from an LMG to kill someone, I logged off and went to hardcore, so I don't think I ever saw the 3d spotting in that game.

That said, I didn't find the damage model far off from Hardcore BC2 to the alpha for BF3. People died plenty fast in it, giving or recieving. The spotting was just silly when you could spam Q and have little arrows pointing out people you'd never have seen.

I get the intent of it, and sure it helps with teamwork, but it's far from balanced. It really needs to have a cooldown on the use of it, and have the range it will spot people limited so that they have to be closer to the crosshair for it to work. This "everything in the scope" stuff should be restricted to recon who have the spotting mod.

I agree. It made hiding in the bushes almost useless. In the Alpha, I played as a sniper until I unlocked the Bipod and I got most of my points per round by spamming Q as I looked around the BF with my 12x scope. I should not have been able to spot through bushes, but I constantly spotted people that I couldn't even see.
I also thought that the damage in the alpha was similar to hardcore BC2 on most of the weapons. I think they still need to tweak it a lot.
The regeneragting health sucks. If they don't remove it, I hope that it's a casual feature or maybe add a timer so health doesn't start to regen until after a minute or so.

Well, any argument based on the fact you are playing vanilla version of the game and not hardcore is irrelevant - as that is the version made for the console kiddies.....play hardcore with the adults.

More importantly, people use LMG's because THEY'RE THE ONLY WEAPONS MEDICS CAN USE in the game.

Perhaps you misunderstand the concept of Battlefield games.

You complained that it took too many hits from a weapon with a 100-200 shot clip with no cool down and a tactical scope to improve accuracy. I'd say that's being a newb. The biggest reason BF infantry has always sucked ass is because of LMG whoring

Yes, you REALLY don't understand the concept of Battlefield games then. That's pretty freaking clear. First off, I never mentioned a tactical scope, because I didn't have one. It was the first time I set foot in the game. Second, any game where it requires 10+ direct hits from a 5.56mm chambered weapon is absolutely absurd. Third, as mentioned above... IT'S THE ONLY WEAPON A MEDIC CAN HAVE at the start.

So from your personal expertise, medics should be disallowed or simply not used? And of course you'll also be the same guy who declares that recons are noobs as well. Then there's those damn RPG whoring engineers. I guess people should ONLY ever be allowed to play the game using the class that you prefer?

Can you honeswtly not see how absolutely fucking retarded that argument is? Medics exist to heal teammates, that's what I like doing most of the time. You don't like what gun the medics get assigned? Too fucking bad for you, go cry in a corner.

If you want a game where people don't have roles to play, then CoD is your game. Otherwise, change your diapers and accept that a functional team needs some of every class.

Have you played CoD4:MW? Until you get some of the goodies that are only available after a good deal of playing (especially the scopes) YOU WILL get your ass handed right back to you regardless of skill.

CoD's (MW anyways) unlock system and BF's unlock systems are two very different things though. MW's requires you to get a certain number of headshots if I recall correctly, and then subsequent scopes you have to do the same only using one of the scopes you've already unlocked to do the same thing...

BC2's was purely based on points. Score points, however you choose to do it. Heal people, revive people, deliver ammo, capture objectives, stand around and shoot people... whatever it is that you enjoy doing that gives you points will eventually unlock every scope for your chosen class.

It's changed a little bit in BF3, but not in any way that's going to have people tearing their hair out. Just play the game the way you enjoy playing and you'll get them sooner or later.

If there are people out there that can't enjoy a game until they have the "most powerful" weapon and the highest level scope and every other whatnot unlocked, then I question why you're even playing the game. Everything is there for you right from the start to enjoy, the objective based nature of the game, the team work, huge maps, a wide choice of weapons and vehicles that let you play the game in whatever manner you feel like.

The game is about the process. Doing that which helps your team win. Not about the little rewards that pop up along the way.

BFBC2 only took a few hours to unlock damn near all the weapons - and even then the majority of stuff isn't worth using. I am sure the same will be said with BF3.

Well, it wasn't anywhere near that fast but I agree it wasn't exactly a ridiculous amount of time either. It was probably about 20 hours of time but most of the weapons were simply sidegrades that sacrifice one stat for an increase in another. There were some balance issues but it wasn't due to DLC guns or anything.

I do think this sort of crap is lame but unfortunately its what EA seems to love these days. Personally unlocks have lost all meaning, I remember auth'ing my EA account with Dead Space 2 and getting so many unlocks at the same time that it was just pointless. BLUE DRAGON ARMOR, SER ISAACS IRON JOCK, blah blah blah.

Probably not the AK, but yes I'm sure there will be lots of grinding to be had to unlock weapons.

The leveling is just a way to keep people interested - I haven't seen any bearing on ability to play in ANY of the BF games - nor CoD for that matter.

1[Basically because I was a latecomer to the game, I had to ENJOY getting my ass kicked because I had inferior weapons...

After about a month of playing I got most of the unlocks I wanted and then the game was pretty good. But yeah...
That would just be your inability to adapt. I find myself kicking ass anytime I prestige or even in BF games I rarely use the higher up weapons. I don't agree with the "my weapons aren't as good as yours so I suck" argument. It is lame.

Hmmm yeah great. That was the worst part of Cod4:MW for me. It was a decent enough game, but the pain of getting some of the cooler weapons sucked donkeys balls. Basically because I was a latecomer to the game, I had to ENJOY getting my ass kicked because I had inferior weapons...

I suppose if you define playing the game normally as "grinding" then yes, there will be plenty of it. It's far from an MMO's sitting in the same spot killing the same mobs a thousand times over. Just play the game in whatever manner you enjoy most and things useful to you will unlock.

Yeah, if you go back to battlefield 2, you had your standard loadout which changed by faction and class, plus exactly 2 unlocks per class.
http://wiki.bf2s.com/classes/battlefield-2/assault

Now you have a standard loadout that changes by faction and class, plus a dozen unlocks per class, and a handful of vehicle and general purpose unlocks. So there's tons of stuff to experiment with, and countless possible builds. And unlike an MMO that has diminishing returns, you're always unlocking new stuff at a steady clip until you have everything.

Basically, the unlocking process guides you through trying out every weapon and gadget in the game. I've really enjoyed it both in the recent Battlefield games and in the last CoD game. Because I never felt like there was any shortage of new things to try.
