Battlefield 3 Alpha Trial FAQ

The Battlefield Blog has a FAQ on plans for an Alpha Trial version of Battlefield 3, DICE's upcoming military shooter sequel. This covers how this alpha will differ from the game's beta testing, which is currently planned for September. They also describe their goals, saying this about the Alpha Trial: "It is a highly tech focused test period where the main purpose is to do a number of server related tests in preparation for game launch requiring a set amount of players online to ensure the final experience is as much fun and easy as possible." They don't specify what platform or platforms this will cover, but they do outline what will and won't help you gain entrance:

The Alpha is a closed test and by invitation only. If you'd like to have a chance to be called upon make sure to register for our newsletter and ensure your Veteran status is up to date.

We are also not giving away keys to the Alpha Trial on any of our social networking platforms.

I think I'm one of the only person mostly uninterested in BF3. The preview material has been terrible and focused on the COD crowds.

EA should make a correction because in reality this game at release will be beta, so actual beta will be alpha, I know it maybe confusing but with EA QA thats how it goes.

I should have most of the Veteran status points, but somehow all my 1942 games got used by someone else. I tried to correct it, but they refused to help me even though I have the original Disc's, cases and even the boxes they came in. :/ Kinda sux.

Something similar happened to me. Open a ticket with them, they are super slow, but sometimes they will fix it. I know of multiple instances where a simple picture of all manuals, cds, keys, etc fixes the problem.

For some reason my 2142 copy isn't showing in Veterans, but all the other games are.

I just logged in to get the newsletter and now 1942 shows up. That made my day!

Of course in the entire history of gaming alphas and betas have always been indicative of the final versions of games.

If you didn't catch it, that was extreme sarcasm.

Alphas, I tend to agree with, but as for betas, we heard the same thing from fanboys on the Medal of Honor forums during it's beta. "It's just a beta, the full game so much better! All these problems will be fixed by release!"

Of course the idiots spewing their "The full game won't be like the beta" crap had no concept that the 'beta' was less than one month before the release date of the game, meaning it had already gone gold and shipped for printing.

The full game had every single problem the beta had and even added a few for good measure.

Particularly relevant info, considering it's the same publisher and same developer (on the MP side).

I'll wait for the beta thanks, from what i've heard/seen of the alpha is not great. Locked config files (that means uneditable keys!!!) and looks like MOH 2.0 just on a larger scale.

Um, I think born2expire is just saying that he doesn't think the Alpha will be very enjoyable, given the limitations. If he thought that would never get better, he wouldn't say that he wants to play the beta.

What a horrible horrible site. And now they have that "Gun Club" site which is just as atrocious. What a mess they have been creating over there at EA....now Origin.

ugh. Quit letting the interns design your crap!!!!

You've actually tried Origin?

No. Why would I? Look at their current web offerings - do you think it will be any different?

/edit: Went and logged in. Same login as EA sites.....looks the same. I refuse to buy anything directly from EA.
