When I look back at previous Civ games, Civ III stands out as the most memorable, and coming in 2nd would be the original Civ. I have Civ IV and all the expansions, but there was just something not quite right about it. I didn't like that they removed ranged bombardment, though there are mods for it. I found that the AI were all pacifists. Once I went without building a military just to see how long I could go. I didn't get attacked until the early gunpowder age. I switched to producing military and I was able to build up a good defense fast enough to repel the attack only losing 3 cities. Once the AI civ lost a battle, they came begging for peace.

Now with less than 30 min to go on the sale, I find myself considering buying it. The DLC are mostly maps and scenarios. The only ones I would want are the extra civs, which IMO should have been included in the game to begin with. I doubt not having them will break the game, and I can pick them up when they go on sale. But then I still would rather have the whole game. The game has been out almost a year, and there hasn't been an announcement if they will sell a version with all DLC included.

I can't imagine switching to 5; 4 is too perfect and I want nothing changed.

Ha, I guess I'm incentivizing companies to create imperfect games. Create a perfect one and I won't upgrade! I skipped 2 and 3, though, sticking with 1 as long as possible, and will skip 5. If there's a 6 I may skip that. If there's a 7 maybe I'll jump.

Just enjoying 4 too much. Still learning so much.

Civ5 doesn't have the depth or complexity of Civ 4, there are actually a lot of changes in the iteration. It is a fun enough game but don't expect it to have the lasting power of Civ 4 which is another reason I recommend waiting for a "all in one" bundle as quite a few people will most likely burn through it in a weekend and be finished because there aren't many reasons to revisit once you run some victory conditions.

For me the biggest changes were Civ I->II and II->III. After that they've all been minor alterations to me. Alpha Centauri was a big one too.

III->IV was mostly a graphics engine update
IV->V is mostly a graphics engine update

The tech trees have remained basically the same in all the games, ditto the military units. Civ II changed a lot around in general and III added resources.

Hexes don't change the game much, the lack of unit stacking does more but not as much as I thought it would, otherwise V doesn't change from IV much beyond better graphics.

I've never really played any of the Civs multiplayer so I can't really comment on those.

But yeah if you enjoy Civ, enjoy

Civ V is basically the same as the other Civs, so if you still find Civ in general fun, you'll find Civ V fun. Otherwise, it doesn't bring anything hugely new to the series.

The hex map, lack of unit stacking, and just generally not having to build a million units to defend yourself are all huge in my book, I could never go back to Civ IV.

Definitely wait on Civ5, they've been gouging on DLC like crazy and a big GotY pack is bound to happen soon.

I still haven't picked up Civ V yet. It's damn tempting for $17, but like I said in a previous post, I'm thinking I might wait for a GotY or Complete edition with all the DLC included. I've got <6 hours to decide.

Holy shit... why are people STILL buying Left 4 Dead 2?

Bah these Steam top 10 sales lists are always mind boggling. I have to assume 90% off sales or something are in effect.

Counter Strike:Source... really? Wasn't that free like 10 years ago?

Civ 5 is incredibly tempting, but I can't afford to let it destroy my life like Alpha Centauri did.

Good to see Old World Blues selling well. Apparently it's the best DLC for FNV so far. I'm waiting for the last DLC to be released, then I'll play through them all in one go.

The combat in Civ 5 would be fun if it wasn't so brain dead and devoid of intellect. They really boned the AI in that game, a blind monkey can whip it.

I bought Civ V because it was on sale for 66% off. I played it for 6 hours straight... needless to say it's an awesome game for those who like that type of game. I like a LOT more than i did Civ IV which always felt "off" somehow.

Most people would say the opposite of that, but I feel ya. I think both have their ups and downs, but Civ5 has ten times better combat which makes it a much better game to me.

Just finished Dead Money for New Vegas, and I have to say was worth it. The only thing I wish they would allow for you to do is go back to Sierra Madre Casino. Off to work on the other 2 DLC's and eagerly awaiting the last one.

They did a promo I think. Special weapon if you pre-order. Some Dead Rising bladed bat sort of thing....I am waiting on this one. A demo please. Otherwise I will pass and get Dead Rising 2 "Off the Record" when it comes out in a couple months.
