Same thing - between the two default selections in the first game, the female character seemed more appealing.

Having played both games as the female character, I find her a more interesting character and her voice acting is definitely superior to that of the male actor.
He just comes off like your typical action guy.
Maintaining my character from the first game,
Ray

I'll go one better and say that 99% of that 18% was ME.

<3 Jennifer Hale.

That's mine (ME2, obviously). She doesn't look bad to me at all.
Is it just me, or is she a bit cross-eyed?

I chose female Shepard because male Shepard sounds like a right fucking tool.

Yes to the last few posts. Mass Effect 1 and 2 are better games with Jennifer Hale doing the voicework. My last play through was the male Shepard. They might as well computer generate the male voice for all the emotion he has.

Agree completely, the female Shepard voice casting in ME is perfect.

I normally tend to play female characters if they are available in a game. Don't know why really, perhaps to get some variation, or perhaps simply because I like the idea of strong, capable women beating up bad guys.

My first character has been female in both ME1 and ME2. But the biggest reason for that is the voice actor for the female character has been on the whole better, funnier and more interesting.

If only 18% of players are playing a female Shepard then 82% are missing out. The voice work is some of the best in gaming.

I don't think that would be the case in Mass Effect. Female players typically choose male characters in online games because they don't want to be harassed by those adolescent males. ME is a single-player game so that's not really a concern.

Ironically many female players actually pick male characters.

Which is awfully ironic, and funny, given the fact that so many adolescent males are always trying to flirt with female characters in online games.
