Scrolls might be the same, it depends how cheap it is. In case you haven't been following it, 1.8 (the next version, they just realized 1.7 with Pistons (whoop!) ) Is supposed to have a full "Adventure" mode, with Quest and NPCs, etc. I have high hopes (I too quite playing Minecraft a few months ago, I hope the adventure mode brings me back) |

I gone in on a couple of games this way:
Mount & Blade, and Minecraft.
I got more than my money's worth out of both.
People often decry this method, but both Mojang and Tale Worlds started as ONE MAN shops. One dude.
I don't know about you, but I couldn't afford to develop an entire game out of my own pocket.
If supporting good Indy games - rapidly becoming the last bastion of PC gaming - requires that I occasionally pay less to support an incomplete project in the hopes that it sees the light of day...well, I'm pretty comfortable with that.

Minecraft offered something that no other game had really ever done as well, ever. It wasn't a fluke, it was just a beautifully developed game. People saw what it was, and flocked to it before it was even complete.
I want to punch every dev in the face that tries to emulate it. I hate this pan-handling development strategy.
Either way, Scrolls will probably not be anything like Minecraft, and thus not as successful. Did Mojang patent this style of development & release model? If not, wth do you care if others emulate it. |

| Usually when a publisher or employer says you need a lot of "passion" for the job what they really mean is that they're going to screw you as much as possible as long as possible until you figure out what they're doing and quit. |

I'm a big proponent of this style of development. Working at a software developer which employs the agile methodology and ships product nearly ever week, I can't stress enough how important it is to get the customers involved as early as possible. Plus with games, as long as the core gameplay is fun you have a product. Being an electronic CCG this will probably work well with scrolls. |
