the US patent office is infamous worldwwide for giving patents beyond questionable. I hope this reform covers more than the article states, maybe even hiring skilled people to validate patents. this "first to file wins" gets people to rush and file even more worthless patents... hmmm.. doesnt that give them more work and create more positions within their office? perhaps this is why this is so widespread.. |

No, no, that is too much work.
Just wait for somebody else to invent it and then file before they do. They do all the work and you get all the profit. Win! While b*tch*ng about our corrupt country, how about those 5-4 SCotUS decisions? Loving that companies are also allowed to patent life, Ray |

The House bill retroactively allows new review of financial business method patents, creating an illegal grab of property held by small patent holders, argued Representative John Conyers Jr., a Michigan Democrat. “The bill essentially will give large banks a special new bailout at the expense of small inventors and the American taxpayer, and even worse, would do so on a retroactive basis,” he said on the House floor.
Conyers also questioned the bill’s first-to-file provision, saying it hurts small inventors who may not have the money to file patents quickly. “As a result, the bill would permit the Patent and Trademark Office to award a patent to the first person who can win a race to the patent office regardless of who is the actual inventor,” he said. “This is patently unfair to inventors.” This "reform" is coming down on the side of big business...yet again. |
