Out of the Blue

Well I'm glad I mentioned my frustrations with WinQUAKE, as it lead to recommendations of alternatives, including Fitzquake (thanks nin), ProQuake 4 and Quake Injector (thanks King Ghidorah), and Tenebrae (thanks |RaptoR|). The one I checked out was the one SirKnight recommended first, LordHavoc's DarkPlaces Quake Modification, which offered everything I could ask for, including beautiful 1920x1200 graphics, smooth character animations, upgrades for the sprite effects, and more. The result was incredible, and I had a great time playing through episode one, and plan on finishing the single-player game (which as I recall got to be a bit of a tedious ordeal by the end, but we'll see).

Sorry I'm off topic but is anyone having problems with videosift? When I click a link or go to the website a popup asks me to create a new username. If I enter an new one it says there is already a name associated with me. It's really messed up. :/
Are you still having problems? VS was acting weird recently.

Nope, it's just been a Quake love fest here the last few days, and everyone's reminiscing.

:-( Sorry dude, I didn't read/see all the posts that day. Thank you just the same though, as it is the best mod IMHO. ;-)

Cheers

Downloading it now to give it a try. Last year when I purchased the ID pack on steam I gave it a shot with GL quake, and played through a little. Looking forward to going back through the entire game.

I am not sure I understand what you are trying to achieve, you can disable UAC if you wish.
Still pretty new to Win7 so I probably didn't word it well. What I would like to do is have an Admin only (login if necessary) account.

There are several reasons why, I don't want to bore you with too much but part of it could be the search for the clean, lean efficacy of XP while retaining many of the upgrades of Win7.
1. I'm the only one using the machine behind a firewall with reasonable protection, though nothing is full proof.
2. The number of redundant Inaccessible Directories filling up Explorer with Denied Access is annoying, frustrating and very inefficient.
3. Not to mention the constant need to either log in as Admin or Blanket grant access to individual files or whole folders just so I can get into my System Files to check drivers or edit ini files.
4. Probably goes without saying I have Show Hidden Files, File Extensions and System Files.

I've gotten one suggestion about just deleting all the Accounts except Admin once I initially create an account in the UAC. I'm just not sure it will let me delete all the User Accounts even logged in as Administrator. There seems to be a even higher level than Administrator once it's unlocked. Still had problems accessing some System Files/Directories requiring me to set some Global Permissions to my Administrator. I'd defiantly try it, if there was a pretty good chance it would work.

Though my idea (if it would work) seemed cleaner. E.g. reboot at the UAC prompt and let it auto create the Temp Admin which goes directly into the desktop without creating a UserID. Then unlock Admin, reboot and I'm thinking it should go strait to the login screen (with just a Admin Login) without ever creating any account, though only theory at this point.

I tried using Googlefu but nothing pops up about avoiding UAC, except Sysrep, iirc. There was plenty of info about off partitioning Program Files, Users, ProgramData and Program Files (x86) to the D partition (another resolved issue). So I was lucky in that regard and it's gone well in helping to prevent excessive Fragmentation on the OS partition.

Thanks, hope that was somewhat clearer.

Fion haven't tried that one, but I have notice Vindictus main website has been down for at least at least 18 hours, thinking they got hacked.

Edit NM it's back up.

I don't bother though. I found the UAC a nuisance for the first few weeks after install then barely notice it.

Shit, first thing I did under Pista and 7 both was kill UAC.

I thought there was multiple routes to use a XP-like admin account on W7?

OTC has anyone tried doing a Win7 install with only a Administrator account, bypassing the UAC or is it even possible?

The idea I'm kicking around is to Reboot at the UAC prompt. On restart letting it go strait into the desktop, creating the Temp Admin account. At the desktop Enable the main Admin account, so on all start ups there is only the Admin account to login.

Yeah they did a good job keeping it consistent with the original textures. You'll probably need Darkplaces to use the normal maps.
