Fallout: New Vegas DLC and Patch Next Month

Also on the Bethesda Blog is word that the Old World Blues DLC for Fallout: New Vegas is delayed from its planned release this month, and is now due next month along with a new patch with further improvements for Obsidian's RPG sequel:

We’ve received plenty of inquiries asking when we’ll be releasing Fallout: New Vegas’s third DLC, Old World Blues. Today I can confirm the content will release on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on Tuesday, July 19th.

Prior to release, we will release a new title update for New Vegas. Along with adding support for Old World Blues, the update will bring improvements to performance and stability in major areas.

We’ll also be releasing a new trailer for Old World Blues in the coming weeks. I’ve already seen an early version, and it’s crazy awesome. Until then, today we’re releasing new screenshots on our Facebook or Flickr pages.

Yeah, you're just that good "with computers".

Or maybe it has something to do with the platform having a wide variety of platform configurations, publishers doing little Q/A and games like this having totally freeform play which leads to a huge number of possibilities you might never encounter.

No offense but you're not some unique snowflake. I rarely encounter issues with games because my hardware configuration and OS are usually pretty run of the mill but they do crop up from time to time, particularly in a game this complex. How someone maintains their computer is important but they can run into problems despite having a bare setup and it happens to people all of the time.

Ambient sounds are all messed up (casino noises in the wasteland, wasteland noises indoors, etc.). This has been attributed to the latest update on many forums (Nexus and elsewhere).

Actually I'm envious of all you who have few problems with the game StingingVelvet.

I can give you an idea of the broken quests/bugs I'm running into and it doesn't seem to be in anyway connected to hardware or OS. Well afaik, since they seem to be reported as bugs before it has happened to me on the New Vegas Wiki.

There is an Undocumented quest Ranger Andy gives to check on Ranger Station Charlie. I went there (errr…stealth player here) seeing no one moving (I had been here previously, so I knew there was at the very least a look out on top), so I entered crouching. I see the bodies and find a tape on the floor, crouching the whole time (ambush paranoid after finding mines under the bodies) searched the whole place afaik. Return to Andy, and have the option to tell him there all dead but then nothing else. No visual quest update, no xp, no reward. Knowing I checked everything, even found a couple secret items, I checked the wiki. There's a second tape, I run back there it is plain site, IF your standing up. heh. Grab the tape run back, no option at all to mention anything.

There's a second one involving Raul's companion quest and Loyal, if your in the middle of Volare you can't talk to Loyal about anything else. Reference, dialog lines Raul has to hear. This one may fix itself just by completing Volare, though according to the wiki there are even more bugs possible with Loyal, after the quest. Look Here.

"I’ve already seen an early version, and it’s crazy awesome."

I'm still anxious to see an honest developer say "I've played an early version of it, and it sucks."

I'm on my second play-through as an evil type with a lot of hand to hand skill. Punching is a lot of fun.

I tried playing as a retarded serial killer who beats people to death with a sledgehammer but that got old pretty quickly. I think I'm going to restart my playthrough and use the same build I used for my first playthrough (stealth/diplomacy), only align myself with the Legion this time instead of the NCR.

Yet somehow I never have issues with games while the same people consistently have issues with game after game after game. Perhaps it's how well you maintain your PC a little bit as well?

It's hard to say because there are so many variables. Aside from different hardware, driver and OS combinations, how you play games also has a big impact. Do you stick to the critical path and generally play games as the designers intended or do you experiment a lot and try to think outside the box? In an RPG like FNV, there are so many different ways to play through the game that it comes as no surprise that some people encounter tons of issues while others encounter very few.

Oh damn, didn't realize the Community Patch stopped working. This is the first I've seen of this patch, thanks Jerykk! Cheers

The last patch fixed a lot of bugs but broke some stuff too. I hope they're really taking the time to ensure that the next patch doesn't break anything.

The unofficial community patch on Newvegasnexus.com is outdated and doesn't work properly with the latest official patch. You should grab the alternate community patch from here: http://www.ravenmodding.terminal47.net/?p=768&gtlang=en. Ideally, the next patch will fix all remaining scripting issues, making the community patch unnecessary, but I highly doubt that will be the case.

This is a great game, I'm actually making my first play through atm, but it's defiantly still got many potential buggy or broken quest issues. That being said, some of you sound like you don't realize Obsidian is a hired gun/contract killer. They have no say in Timelines, Budgets, Release Dates, PR, Q&A or Bug Fix Lists. The reason that patches only come in DLC is because that's the only time they get paid to issue them.

Oh and the reason the quests are still a bit buggy and potentially broken? It's because of the Mind Boggling Complexity of Massive Multitude of Potential Choices they give you. This is a gift SO FREAKING RARE today even in supposed RPGs, you might take this into consideration the next time you start casting blame or venom.

Now on to the important issue, please tell me you guys are using Willow? As I've mention in another post on a different forum..She is quite possibly the best companion ever written in a game, damn sure from a mod. She was written, voiced and modded by llamaRCA. She did an excellent job bringing her to life. Extremely well written quests and her voice range of emotion is pretty amazing. I could swear it's professional quality. Hug

Hell Willow is more like a damn person, when she starts talking/barking stories or asks you to please stop so she can get a drink, I stop and listen. Some places she'll be sort of scared to wander around in but follows you like a champ.

My biggest concern is when you first get her near Primm, she doesn't crouch till you have officially joined together as a team. This doesn't happen till you get her Beauty back, which at level 4 to 7, can be a pretty tough trek to get to two locations on her note. The second location and final location is just south of NoVac. Since I'm a Stealth player I headed there strait away, can't have a companion blowing my cover, no matter how cute, charming and adorable.

There are already some really great mods in the Top 100 Most Endorsed.

Also New Vegas Bounties 1, there's a 2 but haven't loaded it yet. I hear he got a lot of help with the voice talent for the second, as he did all the voice work on the first.

What's not to understand?

Just because it's stable for you doesn't mean it is stable for everyone.

Part of the challenge of writing good PC code is the diverse install base. One of the many reasons there's always been a push toward consoles - cheaper to test a game for a single known set of components.

Old World Blues requires the update. The update does not require the DLC. I don't see how this can be construed as a conspiracy to milk more money out of customers that don't want to pay. If you don't have the willpower to resist buying the DLC, that's your own problem.

If that was a response to me, you completely misconstrued what I said. My point was that they shouldn't be waiting until they've got another DLC to hock to release patches, which is what it seems like they are doing. Sure, if the DLC does require a patch, release one. But don't hold up other fixes waiting for the DLC.

What exactly needs to be fixed? I played it through to completion and they have already fixed the vast majority of scripting bugs I encountered on the unpatched game.

The game is fixed. It's called "mods." lol

How do I pay the modders for the game?

I'm with everyone else that thinks this game needs more support. I just recently began playing it again and it's less stable now than it was last October. That doesn't make this a conspiracy. This is Obsidian we're talking about, though. Their record of incompetence in supporting their games is well established, so it would be prudent to keep that in mind when forming your expectations.

Yeah, I don't want to sound too cynical (ha!), but it seems like the only time they bother to patch the game is when a new DLC is coming out. "See, see, we're still supporting the game - buy our DLC".

Still, F:NV was quite a good rpg, despite the bugs, so I'm open-minded about more DLC.
