Duke Nukem Forever Demo

Steam now offers the promised playable demo for Duke Nukem Forever, the first-person shooter sequel from Gearbox Software, 3D Realms, and a cast of thousands. The demo was previously restricted to members of the DNF "first access club." They offer no particulars on what is included in the sample of the game.

If you can get past the crappy gameplay then Duke is as good as ever.

Gameplay is king....not Duke. When it comes to DNF, Duke has no game.

Probably the same two crappy maps.

Meh....whatever....I'm waiting for the Christmas $5 Steam sale for this one I think!

I'll wait for that plus the community to edit all the maps into a proper duke game (more secrets, multiple paths on the maps, edit out the "kill you if you don't follow the linear path")

... stuff like that. It may not all happen... but I still bet there will be better mod maps than the original game maps. ... and I'd rather pay / donate to the modders that will "fix it".

If somebody drops a turd on the ground and says, "Hey, this is free!" should I feel inclined to pick it up?

If it's heavily marketed, then yes. Apparently.

A polished turd is going to smell real weird...

one man's polished turd is being generous.

Watch the sales soar now, eh.

Will buy Gold version a year from now with the 15 extra levels they probably ripped out of the current full version.

I doubt it. And even if they did, its really not going to change the fundamental gameplay such as 2 weapons, no selectable boot melee weapon, and almost no secrets.

I'm on The Hive Part 2 and things are getting creepy. Not in an atmospheric way, but in a bad joke kind of way. Up until the outside parts I was liking the game, but the outdoor environments do have bad lighting and weirdly bad gameplay. The lack of cues as to what to do next is even more frustrating than HL2 (episode 1 especially). I solve problems all day long, I don't want to play a game for my mental challenges. I'm hoping it improves after this part.
