Crysis 2 Steam Crisis, Origin Exclusivity Planned?

This Crysis 2 Product Page on EA.com has a link to the game on Origin using a "buy now" button that says "only on Origin." In keeping with that there is a discussion on the Steam Users' Forums about how the first-person shooter sequel is no longer available on Valve's online service. On the other hand, as noted in sflufan's NeoGAF post, as of this writing the game is still for digital distribution on Amazon, Direct2Drive, GamersGate, and Impulse, so we'll have to keep an eye on them. It is also noted that Alice: Madness Returns is likewise not available on Steam, but is on other services, so perhaps there's some sort of Steam/Origins turf war brewing. Thanks nin via Kotaku.

EA store also runs great deals very often. I mentioned before that I bought DA:Origins Ultimate and Dead Space 2 for $20 and NFS: Shift 2 for $18 there. And I got to choose between physical copies (free shipping) and download version. The physical discs run from either disc check or added to EA store account.

I think saying "very often" is a stretch and you're kind of nuts to think that this kind of thing would continue as they eliminate competitors. Removing Steam from the distribution channel is just the beginning. Why would they remove one major competitor and just stop? Direct2Drive and etc would be next. You seem to think they are "doing to Steam what Steam does to everyone else" but fail to see the difference between a publisher who owns a significant share of the gaming market both in intellectual property and sales compared to Valve.

At least Valve has the excuse that their titles were structured around them being the only DD service because for a long time that was the truth. EA is just doing it strictly to eat Steam's marketshare. I have no problem with that in theory but it shouldn't affect me as a consumer, there are other ways for them to fight Steam that they don't even bother trying.
