Boycott this new XCOM. It is written.

On a happier note, there are a bunch of X-Com(original!) clones of varying quality out there, most of which are pretty fun, and can be found on gog.com and other bargain bin/drm free establishments.

IMO they are changing too much. Switching perspectives and genres is already a huge risk. But they are drastically changing the setting too. Mid 20th century suburbia is hell and gone from the quasi-futuristic setting of the early games.

But I guess we'll see. Keeping an open mind while not expecting much.

I don't like what I've seen of XCOM so far but I guess its still pretty early in development.

Maybe XCOM will be the same.

Well, it won't have the depth of XCOM, even though F3 maintained the depth.
And it won't have the feel as it's leaving the world of XCOM, but then again XCOM 3 left the world of XCOM.

But I think it has potential to be a very good FPS that still has some elements of XCOM. If they can capture the horror of a night battle when you're being blasted by better weapons from pitch-black darkness with no clue what's going on and people panicking and dropping all around you I'd consider it a triumph.
I don't think it will. I don't think any game really has.

I've gone from horrified at the blasphemy to reasonably interested in XCOM - it has the potential to be another Fallout New Vegas. I never would have believed the 2D isometric games could have been translated so well into a 3D world and still maintained the Fallout feel. Maybe XCOM will be the same.

What a useless preview. How about some discussion on the gameplay and depth instead of "here is a class and a picture of that class? Oh by the way we talked to the developer and here is what he said". That "article" isn't even preview material, it's more like here are my shitty notes from E3.
