Wow, a lot of hate here. Having played the full game, I can say it's not that bad. It's not that great either but people are acting like it's the worst game ever made. Here's my take on the game:
Pros:
- Nice variety of weapons that have unique capabilities and are not just superficially different (like in military shooters).
- Nice variety of enemies, each with their own unique behaviors requiring different tactics to take out.
- Nice variety of gameplay (platforming and puzzle elements help mix things up).
- Humor (admittedly hit and miss but better than nothing).
- Interactive environments (I spent a lot of time just playing the minigames and trying to find ways to boost my Ego meter).
- Refreshing run & gun gameplay means you don't spend 99% of the game hiding behind cover, occasionally popping out so you can get a headshot.
- Sprint speed is faster than the sprint speed of any shooter made in the past 10 years.
Cons:
- Graphics are quite bad and the depth of field implementation is terrible.
- Weapon limit discourages experimentation and promotes sticking with the most practical weapons.
- Some of the level design is pretty half-assed.
- Most of the enemies and weapons are just updated versions of the ones in Duke3D.
- Not enough secrets.
- Useless button mashing to get past some barriers and finish off bosses.
- No mighty foot.
- Regenerating health is always lame, but you can still die pretty easily on the highest difficulty.
All-in-all, a decently entertaining game worth $20-30. I'd much rather play this than the single-player campaigns of CoD, BF or most other generic modern shooters.
