Out of the Blue

Michael Jordan - How Quickly They Forget (MJ vs Lebron) (thanks Ant) is a trailer someone needs to show to Scottie Pippen, who, of course, inspired its creation with his recent ill-conceived remarks. You'd think he'd have a better appreciation of MJ's legendary skills from getting to see them firsthand, but I guess the view is a little skewed when hanging onto someone's coattails.

Still makes no sense. A guy is allowed an opinion.

That still doesn't make it right or popular.

Opinion = subjective belief, interpretation. By definition an opinion isn't right or wrong. And who cares if its popular or not, the guy was an NBA player who played on the same court as MJ. It's a team sport. It's Scottie Pippen's opinion and if I was him I wouldn't be as nice as he is on his twitter to all these people who got loud about him saying something entirely reasonable.

I'm wondering why so much hate for Pippen

I don't know, maybe because who the fuck does he think he is? Like the other guy said, he should be the first supporter and the first defender. You don't ride MJ's shadow all the way to six rings and then come out and say some other guy "may be the greatest ever".

Ungrateful prick. Had he not had the good fortune to be sided with Mike, he'd never have picked up a championship, and everybody would have long since forgotten him. Have a little respect Scotty.

Living in Chicago for several years, my brother and I loved the team. We got together and watched MJ play, he was in another class. Chicago could be down and bam he would turn things around. After he retired, I stopped watching basketball. To this day, I have not turned on another game. I totally agree with you blues, MJ was that good!

I dunno....Lebron doens't seem all that greaet to me. Of course I got to watch Lakers/Celtics for years, then along came Jordan and it was Bulls/Lakers/Knicks for years....

I can't even watch a whole game of the NBA anymore. No class, no defense, whiny little bitches. Lebron has no class and no respect for anyone. His move to Miami and the way he handles himself is a joke.

Wasn't on the MJ bandwagon, but think MJ is great.

Since I am not a sports fan really, I never get these comparisons.

But I have to agree with DNForever, these arguments are pointless.

On a more realistic sense; they are incomparable because they are playing against different people at different times, even with slightly different rules often.

I do however, have more appreciation for the "greats" of the past, because they were obviously great at what they do. And they were great at times were organizations were not spending millions of dollars each year to get them into better shape and become better players with modern equipment, technology and training methods.

Sure MJ had millions thrown at him in pay; but sports training (and supplements and nutrition) has advanced majorly since then. Go back further to someone like Babe Ruth; he did everything he did by shear practice and skill and passion; not with the help our current knowledge of the body, and nutrition, etc. That you gotta respect; even if you think Baseball is the most boring thing to watch ever (which I do).
I am free of all prejudice. I hate everyone equally.

These arguments are so pointless - best ever and so forth. There is no best ever.

I don't see the issue with what Pippen said - Jordan is the best ever and Lebron could be some day. What's wrong with that?? Lebron is playing right now, so it's more timely to go on and on about his play instead of Jordan. Certainly they're both egomaniacs so really who wins in the end?

LJ is great, but he's no MJ. It's like Gretzky and Lemieux. They're close but Gretz is still the best. Talent like that only comes along once in a rare while.

'm wondering why so much hate for Pippen.

OK he can have an opionon but he better not be the one saying it publicly. Seriously Pipen was a good player that played well with Jordan. He is no Wade even. So him saying that in the pubic is a slap on the back.

Pipen should be the first supporter and the first defender. Instead we get what he said. Best scorer? Jordan was not one-sided (slap to Jordan who has one time defensive player of the year 1988.

All this and I hated Jordan and the band wagon fans. I am a Knicks fan and we would have had a championship or two if not for MJ. MJ retires and we lose the Finals in game 7.

There will always be a player who during his time will be considered the best, and unless he's a center, will be compared to Jordan. It just got passed from Kobe to Lebron and after Lebron is done it'll be someone else.

Physically, Lebron is better than Jordan. He's simply bigger and stronger. Again, physically, Lebron probably is the best ever. But no one has ever had the combination of talent and cold-blooded competitiveness that Jordan had (Jerry Rice in football also comes to mind). It recently came up again in Jordan's bitter Hall of Fame acceptance speech. You could almost make an argument that the man has a problem (that happened to make him millions). And everybody knows that Lebron's recent decision to play in Miami as a part of a "big three" wouldn't have even been considered by Jordan.

Don't get me wrong, I think Lebron is great and love watching him play, but I'll be really surprised if when he's done that he'll be considered the best ever.

Why are Pippen's remarks "ill-conceived?"

He feels LBJ may some day equal or better MJ. That's called an opinion. Not sure why he's getting attacked over it...

I'm wondering why so much hate for Pippen. He didn't put MJ down; the way people are acting you'd think he said Jordan sucks or something.

Lebron is good, but there is no comparison - Jordan hands down.

Who else had the stats, the leadership, focus on the entire team, pulled off as many clutch moments, and has the rings?

All of that aside, who else had an equivalent personality and simply had as much fun playing the game?
The lip-stache does need to go, though.

I'm not surprised the younger generation thinks Lebron is greater than MJ as they didn't actually watch Jordan play, but to hear the talking heads (and Pippen??) try to build Lebron up solely for ratings for both the sport and themselves, that's disgraceful.

MJ redefined the NBA. Lebron is good, but he's no Jordan.
