BlizzCon 2011 Ticket Sales Tonight

With the first round of BlizzCon 2011 tickets having sold out shortly after they went on sale Saturday, tonight will be the last chance to buy tickets to the upcoming game convention for their face value of $175.00 USD. After this second batch of tickets sells out, those interested in attending the show, which will be hold in Anaheim, CA this August, will have to either buy one of the pricey tickets that includes attendance at the pre-convention charity dinner, or enter some wretched hive of scum and villainy to scalp a ticket. Those scenarios aside, tickets will go on sale tonight at 10:00 pm EDT through this page, where those quick enough at the refresh button will have the opportunity to purchase up to four tickets (per billing address). There are full details on ticket sales in the BlizzCon Tickets FAQ. Tickets that include attendance to the charity dinner will go on sale for $500.00 USD each on Saturday at 1:00 pm EDT.

They don't make any money on Blizzcon. In fact, they lose money.

They can afford to lose some pocket change, compared to the unlimited money bags they collect monthly from WoW. It's prestige. Prestige is never meant to turn a profit. Like a restaurant that sells expensive imported beer on tap, that loses 1$ per glass. But then they sell $1,000 worth of hotdogs to more than make up for it. Cry me a river anytime a major corporation announces operating losses. Blizzard, I will pay $1,000 if you drop me Diablo3 after dinner , into my swag bag. Otherwise, no thx. I'll continue my own charity donations elsewhere.

Maybe if you're being picky about when the money is made. You can't buy the kind of PR that BlizzCon receives, days of coverage on even mainstream news sites around the world. If they had to pay people to attend BlizzCon it would still be a money maker overall for them.

It seems expensive but you know what? Blizzard is smart to sell them at a fairly high price. They have enough of a fan base there's plenty of people who will pay that price. Given how fast they sell out every year, they could probably sell them for $300 normal ones and charity at $1000 and still sell out quick.
Plus with ticket prices that high, they can not only take more profit but at the same time use a higher dollar amount in making the show even more impressive.
