Shacknews has a confirmation of
the report that
Direct2Drive is being sold to Shacknews parent company
GameFly. Word is they will be investigating Windows game rentals, as they offer this quote from GameFly CEO Dave Hodess: "We know that consumers are interested in PC game rentals, so we will investigate this idea thoroughly."

Direct2Drive has always been a decent alternative to Steam, especially given that they don't subscribe to the "games as a service" concept. I own quite a few games from them, but it's gotten to where I pretty much always get the Steam version of every game. There's something to be said for having all your eggs in one basket, both good and bad, but I like the convenience, being the lazy, crotchety, easily annoyed, fogey game that I am.  |
