Did I read this is a Square Enix game? When's the last time they've done anything worthwhile?
Carmageddon 1 was one of those games I put probably 20+ hours into, but never actually owned. All that time was put into the demo. If I recall the demo had a 2 minute limit, so it became about seeing how much carnage you could cause in 2 mere minutes. I don't recall if there was a time crack on the demo (I think there was) but I know there was a car crack, so you could spend those 2 minutes driving the tank-like Police car. Man, the replays from head-ons in those. And I have vivid memories of the granny-with-a-walker sprite spinning like crazy when you nailed it at 90 mph.
Carmageddon 2 I actually owned, but never played properly. I really just looked to play it like I played the original demo, so I cheated to unlock everything then played random levels with random vehicles and tried to see what carnage I could create while totally ignoring any objectives. And it was glorious. |

Or look at the timing, and realize that the 7 months Carma ONE was out before GTA, quite a while before 'C2'...
Not saying mid-development ideas aren't borrowed from other games, but a 'debt of gratitude'? I disagree ; )
I'm also assuming you really meant the third GTA game, as it was the one to really 'make it', but it wasn't much more than GTA 2 in 3D.

Carmageddon was a totally simple, totally fun visceral pleasure with a great tongue-in-cheek theme throughout. I loved it.
I've been waiting for the original to show up on GOG (there are already several Activision games on there), but a remake/sequel would be great too. |

| You're missing out by not playing Carmageddon 2. It's every bit as violent as the first game, but the 3d models are comepletely deformable, and the cars come apart wheverver they're hit. Only game I've played where my car can separate where it gets hit; if you hit a telephone pole too hard with your door, your car will split in half. |

What made Carmageddon for me were the violent 2D sprites. The failed follow-ups were 3D right? Neither myself or any of my friend's bothered
with them. Looked like Virtua Racing.
Anyone remember POD Gold? A weird sci-fi racing game I played to death. Wish that would get a revival.

My, my, that sounds exciting.
Just a couple of month ago when GOG.com had its relaunch I was sitting in the chatroom and whining about how they should release Carmageddon 1/2 and TDR2000.
This game was just too much fun. |

For months after Carmageddon and Carma II was released, a bunch of people at work would spend our lunch hours playing multiplayer. Pinball mode, laying mines around corners or at the landing points of common jumps, taking a solid granite car halfway across a map plowing down opponents along the way, spending half an hour trying to track down some guy holed up at the bottom of the aircraft carrier map, it was all awesome!
