Brink Patch Next Week

The Bethesda Blog has word on plans to patch the Windows and console editions of Brink, the recently released first-person shooter from Splash Damage. Here's word on highlights of the PC patch that's expected early next week:

We’ve identified the cause of sound dropping out on certain maps when playing networked games for a prolonged amount of time. This will no longer occur.

Graphical performance has been improved, especially when using Ambient Occlusion. We’ve worked closely with both AMD and NVIDIA, and you should see performance and stability improvements in future driver revisions from both parties.

The server browser is tweaked in this update, as well; among other things, a new filter allows you to display only servers with a certain number of players on them, and full servers will no longer be filtered out completely.

There are some smaller fixes for minor issues including your character’s voice occasionally resetting when deleting another character, and a memory leak when alt-tabbing out of the game.

Finally, the dedicated server is set to get an update at the same time as the main game, which will result in improved CPU performance. We’ve protected certain cvars that previously allowed server admins to accidentally break objectives involving NPCs.

Check out this old preview video of Brink. This is the gameplay I expected. It looks so much better than what we have today--mainly because this guy takes a few hits and doesn't get killed instantly. Compared to what I'm playing, he must have invulnerability enabled.

WHY did they change turrets? WHY doesn't the game look like this now.... They should be arrested for this kind of "Bait and Switch"
Looks the same to me bar the turret damage. Hardly a bait and switch.

doesn't seem like kevlar vest does much.

It only protects against the soldier ability "Armor Penetrating Ammo", AFAIK.

The armor penetrating ammo might nullify the vest, but the damage of all other ammo types should be reduced. Health buff and extra health from command posts is pointless because you die just as quick with or without them. Medics not much good aside from resurrection because you're dead before they can get a heal off. Damage output just seems to be too great for anything to work properly.

The absolute last thing they want you to be doing is testing their code without already having spent your non-refundable money right now.

They're not exactly going to be attracting players in droves if the players can see the state the game is in. At this juncture, it's time to cash in on people who are willing to buy early without testing, because this game is going bargain bin fast.

Yeah, I could load the game right now, join a server playing the Refuel map and be guaranteed to lose sound within the first 2 minutes.

Seen someone post on the SD forums that the damage buff was broke.. they apparently tested it with a friend and it took the same amount of shots to kill the other person with and without buff. Anyone able to verify this?

Also, doesn't seem like kevlar vest does much. I can have the ability as a soldier, plus get the engineer's buff and I still die within milliseconds of getting hit with the first shot.

It's ok to express your emoticons. It doesn't make you less of a man.

where's that tool that kept saying player numbers were increasing

I'll stand by past statement that the player numbers were rising, unfortunately it looks like the game has been steadily dropping off by about half since I said that. But in my defense it looks as if ALL player numbers have dropped across all games monitored by steam, not sure whats going on there, could it be week vs weekend gaming I don't know.

Personally I have no trouble finding scrims and ringers if needed, there is a really solid community around this game so far, pubs might be a different story, of which i have no interest in.

I didn't like this game out of the gate as much as I thought I initially would, but the more I play it and get used to the character, maps, physics/movement (SMART), etc., the more I am liking it. It is the same concept of 'teamwork' as QW: ET, but as of right now I think I like QW: ET much better. More time will tell...... See you on 'The Ark'. ;-P

Why do people say this... Ya heard enemy Territory and Assumed it was Quake Wars :ET that this game is like ....WRONG... This is a modern day WOLFENSTEIN : ENEMY TERRITORY.... so many people around claiming they know chit. This game is NOTHING like Quake Wars. The BRINK forums are the same way , all these 15-16 year olds claiming they KNOW Team based combat, HEAR ET mentioned and Assume it is QW:ET then repeat the same drivel on the forums just looking stupid.

Oh well, glad the BRINk you are playing is like QW:ET, the BRINK I am playing IS WOlfenstein:ET...jus like it , same classes, almost same mechanics.. NO FLYING AIRCRAFT or Vehicles... TEAM/CLASS based combat.....

Old school Gamers WILL remember the ET this game is made after, HEck they even use the SAME announcer voices.

Prolonged amount of time my ass! I've had sound cut out on the first map I play on within just a few minutes. I ran into the invisible player problem last night too. That was fucking weird. I didn't even know that was an issue until I started seeing muzzle flashes appear in mid-air.

This game is fun and has a lot of potential, but this patch needs to be the first of at least several to fix all the issues and hopefully differentiate and balance the weapons a bit more. They need to get the damn VOIP working too!
