The crap they pulled with SC2 should be all the proof anybody needs.
Their insistence that anybody that runs WoW must agree to allow their anti-cheat program to inspect their entire system, send the names of private windows/documents, etc. to them for analysis, and even scan memory of other processes is bullcrap.
No LAN play, no spawn installs, etc.
They've taken away so much that they themselves helped establish as the standard.
And they can't argue it was necessary because they 'were hurting due to piracy'; bullhockey.
I understand that they're a business and they exist to make money, but they don't have to be so damn greedy about it. |

Wallshadows wrote on May 18, 2011, 11:35: This is not only a problem now but a future problem as well. Think of the implications this may have on Diablo III or future Blizzard games. This is exactly how I'm seeing this. Without sounding like a ranting 12 yr old, Blizzard really seems to have jumped the shark on this one, in my book.
Don't get me wrong, they have made some.. interesting.. decisions lately (SC2 in 3 parts, RealID, Mobile App monthly fees). Those made me cringe, except for the SC2 being announced as 3 releases, that, that made me simply not buy it.
However, this crap they are pulling now, premium prices for making different groups in game, no. That's shady crap right there. I haven't played WoW in years, but that right there tells me that I need to expect this kind of crap in the future from all their games.
We'll see how they play this one out, but honestly, I won't support a company that nickles and dimes you like that. Want to sell a mobile app? Whatever. Want to tell your customers that the game is pre-split into 3 parts and you basically have to buy it 3 times, ok, I can choose not to get on that particular boat, but to go in this many years after a game is released and say, "ya, that new feature we're adding into the core game, you have to pay us more per month to use that button, again, in game". No.
If they don't reverse that decision, I will simply stop trusting them as a gaming company. That's just not right on many levels. Reading my posting history, I'm not really huge on Diablo3 and I'm on the fence about it, but this seriously pushes me clear over it with a warning to never return.
Blizzard, why oh why did you have to join forces with Activision? Maybe correlation is not causation in this instance, but I for one LOVED your games until that merger. Stuff just seemed to start sliding down hill after that...

What makes this such a glaring scheme to capitalize on is the fact that they only decided to implement this right after it was announced that 600k players left. No doubt they need to fill that hole. I suspect the same will happen when the next wave of players leave and they decide to allow BoA items transfer to separate servers for a fee.
The BoA feature was supposedly going to be implemented in the last patch, but they ended up only making it so two accounts sharing the same billing account could transfer BoAs between them on the same realm.
Good chance they're, like you said, saving that one for another pay for premium feature. |

I don't play WOW, nor do I care anymore what happens, but I have to say you guys sound like a bunch of old guys sitting around in a retirement home complaining about why the Jell-O isn't as good as it used to be. Yes, I'm comparing WOW to Jell-O. |

Premium service, eh? What's strange is that this decision really goes against Blizzard's social design mantra with WoW. WoW has always been about letting you have a solo option when you need it but making it easier to group with your friends and do things together. I'm not sure I'd ever want to a play game where they want to charge me money for a feature they designed that will in turn let them make more money already.
Tl;dr - It's a feature that pays for itself in terms of continued subscriptions, the surcharge is totally unnecessary and comes off as more than a bit greedy. |

I agree.
It's not in their interest to provide players with one more reason to quit the game for the sake of making a fraction of their total revenue for greed.
They will have a much healthier, long term player base if they bite the bullet and realize that this was a feature a lot players have asked for for so long rather than to tack on a price and expect the community to bite. If anything, the community is already strongly against this but due to massive censorship on their forums, threads will be squashed before they are read.
Right now, they risk losing subscriptions which not only lowers the potential for that extra income but also the flat $15 which the entire structure of this game relies on. While premium services will go to line their pockets, the base subscription fee is what allows Blizzard to maintain their hardware and such.
This is not only a problem now but a future problem as well. Think of the implications this may have on Diablo III or future Blizzard games. |

| This is in terribly poor taste on the part of Blizzard, especially after the last expansion. You don't retain customers this way, you drive them away. It's bad enough they already charge for automated processes that are the equivalent of changing a flag in an SQL database but at least they could make the argument that they don't want players doing them all of the time. |

This is burning up the general forums topics where admins are deleting threads left, right, and center from angry players. It seems like this, aside from when they wanted to reveal your real name on the forums, is one of the few things which 90% of the community is against and for good reason.
Blizzard has to be so blind by greed to start nickle and diming their players through a method they introduced to encourage social gaming which should have been a (free) feature right from the start. They either lack foresight or saw dollars instead of a happier community who were screaming for a feature such as this to come out.
Whether they charge $1 or $10 for this is simply unacceptable and sets up a dangerous precedence when it comes to what they will charge for next such as (non-expansion) content updates. While I would find that hard to believe a couple years ago, it's now a real possibility.
Pretty soon, they will simply change their subscription method to:
WoW Light - $15 - Standard account with no premium perks WoW Plus - $18 - A combination of standard account with one premium perk WoW Platinum - $22 - Features all premium access
Bottom line is is that premium based subscriptions should be left to the F2P games which rely on microtransactions to support the developers which, in turn, benefits the community. In no way does Blizzard need financial support on top of what we are already paying in subscriptions.
